I have a 11 year old son and he is staying in California with his grandfather so that I can get my RN degree.  I am a single mom and I live in Florida. I am a single mom and I recently met a gun nut and an ARMY VET. and he suggested that we get my son eather a 22 or a bb gun for his christmas present we figured that now would be a good time since my family owns 48 1/2 acres in the Cleveland National Forest in So. Cal.  My dad will teach him but I am not sure how to get it there to him if I were to get it hear in Florida.

Is it legal to ship that type of wepon from Florida to California?

If Yes, How is the best way to ship them?

Can any one please help me I realy would like some help on the laws on this one since I am not all smart on law medicine is my thing.

you'd be better off to have grandpa buy it there.

the problem with shipping it is it would have to be sent to a local ffl and then transfered to grnadpa. most ffl's will charge 30 -50.00 for this wonderful service. consider most .22 rifles are under 250.00 the hastle and expense are just simply not worth it.

pick out a model you want him to have and let grandpa take him to the store and buy it for him. it will be easier and much cheaper. spend the tranfer fee money on ammo.

Basically, your way, you'll need to buy the gun, then have it shipped to Cali ($) to a firearms dealer who will charge you money to receive/transfer the gun ($).  So you can add about 50 bucks to your gift.

i think you are missing the point here. no matter how you send it he will have to drive to the gun shop to recieve it. you can not have it sent directly to him. he must go inside and do a transer.

that is why your not going to have anyone tell you it's a good idea to ship. That and the fact that firearms have a bad habit of disappearing during shipment.

If it is a BB gun it is ok to ship it regular mail that won't be a problem but for a .22 you should give grandpa the money and have him make the purchase.  For the reasons state above.

Since he is only 11 you should start him with a BB gun instead of a .22 it is easier to ship a BB gun then work him up from there eventually you could get him an AR-15 or something else. Good luck.
