Nothing in particular, but whould you guys be willing to take a less technical job that paied a bit more in a location you wanted to live in? The obvious answer is yes I would think. But I am young and I don't want to take a job that requires less brain cells just to be turned down at an initerview in the future for a more technical job. Say you have a degree in engineering, but you apply for a job that basically needs any engineering degree. Sort of a 'if you have an engineering degree then you have the math and problem solving skills required' type job. Do you take that job for the money and location, or stick it out where your at cause you will be more skilled in you area of schooling this way? |

If you are young, I would say get a business started, now. "Careers" working for someone else in the US may be scarce in most fields soon - the employees are going to be treated more and more like disposable tools, and uncertainty about your job will be the natural order. To answer your question, I would take more money doing less technical work to live somewhere awesome, and I wouldn't have to think about it very long. |
I tend to agree with this point of view... |
| I have a year left of college at WSU, with a degree in business. I think that working on skillsets are a must. I wish I had more time to devote to keeping up on my computer graphics skills. Those can make you serious$$. The post above is right, job security is not going to exist in this country unless you are a the top of your class and have a very specialized, in demand profession like biomedical or medical. I just want to own my own business(s) and and not have to work a boring desk job for some no-name corporation. Its not that I mind working hard, I just want that work to enrich my life somehow. |
