Looking for a home fax machine to use as a stand alone unit. (No PC will be used with it.)

Should I go with laser or injet?

Not looking to spend a fotune on it, but don't want a "cheapo" either. $150-$200 range?
Nothing too complicated as an older person will be operating it.

Thanks...

Wow.  folks still us faxes?

Can't help - I use a scanner/fax/printer

Probably most anything still on the market should be pretty good.  The poor ones would be long gone

Sorry, I hate faxes. The technology is old and needs to die. I use a scanner and email. Hell, newer HP scanners can email a scan with one button on the scanner.

I have a brother all in one scanner/printer/copier. It works well for me.
It comes with a built in network card too
I picked mine up for about $100. Hell of a deal for everything it can do.

Some places, such as government agencies...never heard of fax via e-mail. Sometimes, you just have to do it the old fashioned way.

Yeah, I use a Brother MFC 210C--just under a hundred bucks and it works very well.  Color printing, scan, fax, copy all in one.  I am technologically impaired, so it's a good one for me--very easy to use.  Well, except the scan thingy I never can figure that out until I'm thoroughly angry.

I have an HP 1040. Works fine. Makes good copies, too.

Depends on your usage.  We only use lasers.  Ink is WAY too expensive for the amount of faxing we do.  But we alos receive about 200 pages a day and send out about 500-600 pages a day.  We will be moving towards scanning more in the next few months when I revamp our office.

The fax we had before the new one was a Brother MFC-4800.  It cost a few hindred bucks but lasted almost a year.  For general home use, it or one of the smaller Brothers would do fine.

I till wouldn't recommend an inkjet though.  If you don't use it very often, the ink head can dry up and not work.  We had an inkjet printer do that to us that very rarely used.

I have to use a stand alone fax in my business. I use the sharp model uxb700. They are inexpensive, set up fast and you can refill the ink wells.
