Anyone else here eat with chopsticks?  I don't do it all the time but after finishing a cup o'noodles with a pair I'm wondering if anyone else likes to use them.

I need to.  It would stop me from eating so fast.

I use them every once and a while.

The only time I use chopsticks is when I'm eating oriental food (chinese, mongolian barbaque, sushi), and I only eat oriental food with chopsticks.

I do.  Its a helluva lot easier on clean up when camping and the like.  Just lick them and wipe them, good to go.  I use them for most meals out of habit.

Always, but then again, I grew up using them.

I never understood why chopsticks ever caught on in Asian cultures.  They couldn't figure out how to make a spoon?

And yes, I can use chopsticks, but I hardly ever do.

We made spoons a long time ago too. By chopping up the food into manageable pieces before cooking, we could save cooking fuel.

I try to eat with chopsticks at asian restaurants, but I'm not very good with them.

I use chopsticks until I develop carpal tunnel and then I use a fork.

I use them.. Did you know you could make 5.56 dia hole with them? They work great for making targets to post on here! Not that I would do something like that...

Tried using at a Thai restaurant and I got laughed at by the folks I was with.

I really do think it's a viable way to lose weight.  By eating slowly we allow our stomach to feel full with less food instead of normally stuffing our face as fast as possible with a fork.  That being said, I only use them with Japanese and Chinese food, it'd look a little ridiculous eating a steak with them.

More often than a fork or spoon, since I learned how to use them.

I didn't learn until I was 30

But I worked with a guy in PRK that grew up in Okinawa and between him giving me shit for being a haole he actually taught me how to use them. I prefer them for pretty much everything, especially finger food stuff like fries, nachos (yeah, nachos with chopsticks ), ceviche, etc.

FINESSE , not power, is the key, grasshopper.

I can pick up individual grains of rice with chopsticks. I HAVEN'T grabbed a fly out of thin air. YET.

Oddly enough, one of my favorite Chinese foods-egg foo young- is IMPOSSIBLE to eat with chopsticks. It's the ONLY time I use a knife and fork on Asian food.

Only when the situation (travel, ethnic restaurant) calls for it.
Chopsticks are inefficient, but slow you down enough to enjoy your food.

I do. Sure saves on havin to wash extra silverware.

I eat all kinds of stuff with them.  I love em.  Now I just gotta impress that chick that works at Fu-lin with my mad skillz.  She's probably 14 though.

I do when I'm eating food that requires it.

Titanium chopsticks are the shit! I have a pair coming my way now!

It's much easier eating many dishes with them. I married a Thai chef so I get lots of practice.

They've got those at my local store.
The tips slide into the handles.
Pretty cool, but I never could justify the $20 for a novelty.
Do chopsticks really take up that much space, anyway?

If they're nearby and I'm eating something like noodles or meat, then I use them. Otherwise, why add more difficulty to my life? I think it's kind of funny when my friends use every opportunity to use them... I grew up using them, so the glamor is gone.

Actually chops sticks are quite versetile.

Bamboo and plastic are for everyday use.  The bamboo chop sticks can be use to stir fry because it is heat resistant, that end will turn black but that is okay won't hurt anything.  You can easily pick out an Italian pasta from a boiling pot to test for doneness.  The grain is closed so that it won't trap food particles etc so it can be washed and used over and over.

There are two ends to the chop sticks, the your own personal, eating end and the opposite, serving end.  You use one end for that you personally eat from, and  then you can easily flip the cop sticks over to the opposite end, what I call the serving end, can be used to pickup food for yourself or other people from a community dish when eating a family style dinner where all of the food is in a common dish.  You can serve your children and you won't be infecting them with your germs.

The real good chop sticks are made out of ivory is for entertaining and formal family dinners, they are a sign of wealth because they are expensive, but personally I find ivory a bit too slippery, unless you're really good. Try picking up a whole small button mushroom, it is real difficult.  It has been said that ivory imparts no taste to the food.
