So, it's Halloween, and Sci-Fi wasn't playing the good movies fast enough tonight, so I put in "Resident Evil", and followed that up with "Resident Evil: Apocalypse". Now, of course, I'm a big fan of the zomibe-killing action-packed mayhem, but one of my favorite things about these movies has been the cast. Being a Milla Jovovich fan is a no brainer...I saw one of her first movies, "The Night Train to Kathmandu", when I was 12 or so, and fell in love. Being 14 or 15 and seeing "Return to the Blue Lagoon" did nothing to cure that. "Fifth Element" was a fun movie, and she kicked ass in it, as well. Eric Mabius, James Purefoy, Martin Crewes, Colin Samson - all great cast choices. Heike Makatsch is hella-fine, even if she did get all zombie'd up and then bashed in the head. Michelle Rodriguez, meh. She's OK, I guess. Cute enough, but I'm not a big fan of actors or actresses that display the same attitude in every single movie. "RE: Apocalypse" kicked even more ass. Milla is back, but this time she's joined by Sienna Guillory (who had far too small of a part in "The Time Machine", but more than made up for it in "Helen of Troy") and one of my favorite actors, Oded Fehr (who has kicked ass in every single thing he's ever been in). It was also fun to see Zack Ward (Nicholai Ginovaeff, one of the Umbrella Security Forces) in a way different role than as Dave on "Titus". His part was far too small, as well, but at least he was given one of the better zombie-killing scenes in the movie. I've actually owned "RE: Apocalypse" for over a year now, but haven't removed the shrink wrap from the DVD until tonight (saw it in the theatre). It had a bonus disc inside, which I tossed in after the movie was over, and was watching some of the featurettes on it. Now, it's no big secret that a lot of us gun enthusiasts like zombie movies. Imagine my delight when on my bonus disc, one of the featurettes is entitled "Big Guns"... It starts off with the gun wrangler of the movie talking about some things, and then it jumps into mini-interviews with the cast. My now ex-hero, Oded Fehr (who plays Carlos Olivera) says
Now what kind of bullshit is that? Fortunately, the girls in "RE: Apocalypse" aren't such little bitches as Oded "Pussy Boy" Fehr. Milla Jovovich (Alice) says:
Even if she did mistakenly call her twin MP5K's Uzi's. Three times. Sienna Guillory (Jill Valentine) says:
I love those girls. I'm so happy that there's going to be another movie - "Resident Evil: Afterlife" (as they're calling it at the moment). I can't wait to see the two of them back on the big screen, blasting away. |
| I didnt really care for the RE movies that much. The fun is in the suspense, and the zombie invasion. You dont need the genetically engineered creatures, it just takes away from the real story, which is the zombie invasion. As a zombie purist, it annoyed me. Mila is great though, she is very pro gun. Its worth a watch just because of her. But if they left all the stupid bullshit out, they would have been great movies. |
Yep. They gave that away at the end of RE: Apocalypse. Milla was obviously allowed to escape, and was obviously altered. |
