Just found the shelters that some homeless people have been using on our property. It's not easy to see unless you walk to the edge of our property and look into the culvert that used to be a drainage ditch. What bothers me is that I wasn't regularly checking this area and it has shown evidence in the past of being used. The police checked it out (and said it was a cesspool and to not go down there) and no one was home but the Community Oriented Policing are going to come by and get them out and we'll press charges on trespass to make it less likely they'll come back. When the cops first asked me if I wanted to press charges I said no, then immediately thought that it was wrong and that they will just come back if they're not arrested and inconvenienced. Hard to say if it's drug related but the police were certainly taking it seriously as one officer pulled his gun out and was holding it at his side as they called down to try and get an idea if anyone was there. Yes, the police were professional (3 altogether), yes I will press charges, and yes all animals are safe. Oh, and walking the perimeter will be a daily or nightly priority. |
