| I bought a laptop that I guess either had a jacked up or bootleg copy of XP on it, because it will not activate no matter what I do or what Microsoft tells me to do. I got a new XP disc and want to reload XP on the computer but everytime I turn it on it just brings me to the activation screen and won't let me do anything else. Microsoft can't help because they don't even know what I am saying. |

If you can get into your bios screen as it boots up (usually requires "del" or "F1" to halt the boot process) you can set your drive bootup sequence to choose your cd-rom/dvd as the first boot device instead of the hdd (hard drive). That should do the trick, your pc will then boot from the XP install file on the cd. Good luck |
