If I line the inside of a small floor safe with sheetrock, would it be more fire resistant?

I'd say yes, the sheetrock should help.  I suppose the paper would burn though, but the sheetrock should help.

If the safe is stationary, put as many layers of drywall on the outside. Then enclose the whole thing in a plywood box. You can drywall the inside of a plywood door.

Save some money when you don't have to buy the fireproof safe.

It's just a small floor mounted safe to keep pistols next to the bed.  Paid $40 for it a Harbor Freight.  I would just like it to have some amount of protection from a fire.

A buddy of mine just ceramic tiled his safe. He then put a torch to it and tested it out. Worked good for him.

I didn't even think about that, fuck a bunch of sheetrock.

How did he glue it on the safe, inside or ouside?  How thick were the tiles?  thx

I believe he just used quik set inside and out. Saved him hundreds and I believe it would be more fire proof than the ones from the factory.

You want fire proof
Use the concrete backer board or wonder board It like sheetrock but heavy used for ceramic tile, I tossed a piece on a bon-fire worked great and it is easy to work with

Ceramic tile will shatter in a fire.

Most of the fireproof safes I have seen use drywall for thier fire proofing.  Some with gaps between the drywall.
