does anyone know what that thing is forward of the acog??? m16 pic

Nope. The forward unit is the detached carryhandle with the rear sight. When a unit deploys without a seperate rearward mounted flip-up rear sight, some commanders specify that the carryhandle be attached to the weapon, to facilitate an emergency iron sight capability, if the optics fail, the handle is moved to the top of the upper reciever. Ranger Batt. did it for a little while back in the day, it was also dummy corded. You could not keep it in your ruck, or your rack. Had to be attached to the rifle. Oops, the thing RIGHT in front of the ACOG is the PVS-14 mount, I was looking at the carryhandle on the left side. |
Directly in front of the ACOG is NOT a detached carry handle. Doesn't look remotely like that. |
That is not the carry handle either, it is an AN/PEQ-2. |

Not to 'jack the thread...and thanks for posting this...but every time I see a pic of one of these young fire-pissers, my heart swells with pride. You guyz who are of the age...and in the shit are absolutely the best our country has to offer. You are GREAT grunts...and you make us, your fathers, and moreover, your grandfathers, those men of the now-arguable, "Greatest Generation" most proud of you. Semper Fi! And yes...it looks like a mount for an NV sight. |

darn good idea!
