So, is this gonna be a case of a pecker shotting at a pecker?

Pecker shooter....dunno if I would want to be labeled that or not

I used to live in a log house.  Had pecker trouble.  One day, I whacked that pecker good.  Shoulda seen it drop -- limp as a dishrag.

Uh . . . mmm . . . yes, I used a 16 ga. double barrel.

You have to watch out for the stuff that come out of your pecker after you shoot it.  Thats the stuff that will get you in trouble.

I once got hit in the face by a old lady for playing with my pecker in public.

We replaced my parent's redwood siding this year with steel.

Now they have a bunch of bent peckers.

Don't they only do that if they hear bugs in your wood?  Maybe your wood has bugs.

I have heard a nice piece of deadfall will usually distract them from houses.

buy a bb gun and shoot your pecker off!!!

No bugs in the trim.

This is only the 3rd time in 7 years I have had this problem, normally they move on after a few days, but this one is sticking around...

We had one of those pesky bastards on the farm back home that would ratttle on the sheet steel roof of one of our silos all friggin day......sounded like an air hammer....ALL FRIGGIN DAY.  Couldn't shoot his ass without putting a hole into the roof of the silo......

WONDERFULL,I did some research, and found out that you cannot kill a woodpecker without first filing a form with the government and pay a fee to get a de-preditaion permit.

You also have to get a form 37 or something like that from the dept. of fish and game....

WTF? a damn bird, ruining my house, has more rights to live than I do.

Here it is,

When several nonlethal control methods fail to deter nuisance woodpeckers, lethal control may be required as a last resort. Woodpeckers are classified as migratory nongame birds and are protected by the Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act. A federal permit is required before any lethal control methods are employed. Penalties and fines are assessed to violators.

To request an application for a depredation permit, (a permit that allows you to kill a woodpecker due to property damage), call the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service - Migratory Bird Permit Office at 303-236-8171. The application may also be downloaded from their Web site at www.fws.gov. Chose the "permits" section, select "migratory bird permits," and then chose "depredation" permit application form. This form must then be submitted in writing along with the application fee.

Additionally, you must obtain Form 37 and send it with your application. Form 37 can be acquired by calling the U.S. Department of Agriculture - Wildlife Services at 303-969-5775. You will need to explain the problem over the phone and they will then issue you a Form 37 which details the problem and includes their recommendations to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

County and city ordinances should be consulted before lethal control is employed. Pest control contractors may be helpful in catching and destroying the woodpecker if you do not want to do it yourself.

They don't just use their peckers for fun.

IAMLEGEND is saying what I thought before I saw the picture.   I don't think woodpeckers bother unless something is triggering them to think there's food (bugs or beetles) back there.   I had a neighbor with a wall full of termites.  He only knew because a woodpecker bored multiple holes right through the siding.

If I was you, I'd do a little exploratory poking around in that wall.

It is on all 4 corners of the house, trim only, and this is the worse corner. The house and land have been treated for termites regular, there are none there.

I beleive, since it is the trim only, look at the trim color, I think the peckers think it is a dead tree, and thats why the peck on it.

Try a large rubber snake at each corner. Make a temporary shelf for it to set on near the damaged area.

Practice the arfcom motto 3 S's.  Just make sure the first "S" is made parallel to the plane of the wall rather perpendicular.

Maybe you should hire a professional to take care of your pecker problem, 1shott.

I dont know.  I saw a strip mall with about 5 of those things and the pigeons were actually sitting around the damn things.  It was quite amusing.  I told my GF, if I were the owner of the mall I would hire a 12 and give him a BB gun and set him loose.  $.25 a bird.  That would a dream job for some kid.
