In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina the US Government has sent tons of relief supplys to the affected areas. Responders from across the country have converged on the area to help. Here is the question. Is it right or wrong for a person to take relief supplys and resell them to make a personal profit? Some have argued that there are so many supplys down there, that its ok to skim a little. Some have argued that since they paid for the supplys with their tax dollars, that they are entitled to get some of their money back by taking supplys and reselling them. I happen to think that a person who does this is no better than the looters that we all saw on TV. When confronted though, they seem to get very defensive. Am I off base on this? EDITED TO ADD: These are not friends of mine. I came across this issue on an internet exchange site. |

WRONG If he's in a position to have enough donated supplies to sell then then he was not the intended recipient of said supplies. It is theft, plain and simple. I just spent a month there with the guard. my pay's late and Ive got bills past due. I would never consider those supplies-be they food, construction material, whatever... It would not cross my mind to use those items to make a profit. Get new friends. midwinter |
I hated that bullshit before. When I got my first real job a while back and saw that they had taken over a thousand dollars out in taxes in my first paycheck and knowing worse is to come when I get bumped up to full salary I lost all tolerance of it. A thousand dollars. I could have bought a loaded AR and instead it is going to a bunch of ungrateful mofo's that don't work and find everyway they can to screw the system - and they are pissed about it. ![]() |
