and no, I don't mean a pet name. I cannot name him fred or bubba or whatever (actually "spot" would be a good name for it right now) ... I want the species name. I don't remember ever seeing one like this before.

It doesn't look familiar.

...maybe if you posted a pic of it squished on the bottom of your boot, I might recognize it.
