was taking the firing pin out of my 1911, and BOOM launched right into my eyeball, i pulled it out was lucky it missed the eye and went into the lower left red mathingy. thought i was blind there for a minitue! right eye btw |
I've got two responses: 1. You're probably fine - when I was in the army, I got poked in the eye with an M1 Garand with the blank-firing device attached (which has a long thin metal piece), and it went next to the eye-ball. It went several inches into my socket, and I could feel it pushing my eye aside - but I was fine, and didn;t suffer any damage.2. My best friend in high school was playing around with some chemical stuff at his house (we were both lab assistants, and woudl regularly steal stuff to experiment with at home ), when something literally blew up in his face. He also said stuff like "I'm fine" and "I can see how" - but I forced him to go to the ER, where they pulled two thin glass slivers out of his eye-ball. So just because you feel fine now, and can see - don't assume it!! Definitely pay attention tomorrow morning, and make sure everything seems fine. Don't fuck around with your eyesight!!(You;re probably fine - I don't see how you could really seriously injure yourself too badly, based on what you just described anyway - but better safe than sorry !!) |

In the 70's I was working for a company that relined brake shoes and clutch disks. They also turned brake drums, disks and clutch flywheels. I was walking though the drum turning area and got a very small piece of metal dust in my left eye because some ass started blowing off a machine with air as I walked by. Back then we didn't wear safety glasses. When anyone got something in their eye, a co-worker would wet a q-tip and snag the metal out with the cotton end. Welllllllllllllllll. He didn't get the metal and the bosses were cheep. They refused to send you to the eye doctor. One week later, my eye was screwed. I finally told 'em I was going to see a doctor. The doctor said, the metal worked it's way out but scratched my eye. Every once in awhile, I get dust in the scratch and it gets red and irritated. Go see a doctor, NOW. |

I was changing some springs in my Glock magazines and had remembered to wear eye protection. Sure enough, one of the spring popped out while I was working on one and it bounced right off the glasses. I lost an ejector last week while replacing the ejector spring on my AR bolt. |
