AFAIK open carry is allowed.  I havent seen it around here, Madison and Jackson but the books says its so.

CCW is allowed and MS has a lot of reciprocity with most southern/western states.

I don't know about open carry, but concealed carry with a permit is legal, and Mississippi recognizes and accepts your Tennessee carry permit. Also, loaded carry within a vehicle is legal with or without a permit in MS because state law considers your vehicle an extension of your home.

Yep...what they said.  I haven't seen any open carry either.

I talked to a Jackson MS police capt. sat. night at  the rodeo and he said open carry is not allowed.  he was a very nice man , appeared to be in his mid to late 50's we talked for about an hour during the qualifying.
He told me some pretty interesting stories, i  knew he was ok when i saw the G17 on side

Open carry is legal.  Absolutely 100% legal.

Don't let a Jackson cop tell you otherwise.  Most street cops don't know much about gun laws because that is not their job and yes, a Captain qualifies as a street cop since he is not ATF and not trained to know the many firearms laws.

According to the law, open carry is "frowned upon" by local law enforcement so I wouldn't recommend it.

open carry is legal since MS is considered a gunslinger state, but due to the scalding hot temperatures of the asphault I don't recommend you do it, even more so in Jackson. With all the imports from Nissan and other big business, its getting pretty liberal down there, best not tempt them to call JPD about "some nut waiving a gun"

keeping it covered it the way to go.

eta it would be illegal to carry at the fairgrounds( sporting event on state owned land) however its not in the best part of town, take that information as you will and do what you feel is right.

I kind figured he might have been full of it, very arrogant, you should have heard some of the shit he was telling.
As bad as i hated too i left my G27 at the hotel every day i was there

ETA:  he was a street cop i guess because he was in uniform
The fairgrounds there are very nice, but definately not a good part of town, outside of the fairgrounds and especially aroung my hotel i felt very out of place, white boy driving a four door truck wearing a cowboy hat
  But heavely armed

can't really blame him, JPD is pretty good at their job, its just the admin and mayor that are " keeping them down".  I knew a few really good officers when I was down there almost 15 years ago, back then your attire would not have caused a pause of thought, lord knows there were many " cowboys in town for some shiny buckles"

but now I don't like going to Jackson, its all changed, some for better, but I think mostly for the worse

some for the better????!?!?!?!  you have got to be kidding.  NOTHING in jackson is even remotely "better" than it was 15 years ago.
