Alright, guys, I'm normally fairly astute when it comes to solving my own problems on my laptop. BUT, when I go to "My Computer" to try to get data off my SD card reader, which I have never used before, it doesn't show up. At all. I have my SD card with the photos I want to transfer in the port, and it is locked in. I double checked to make sure it was oriented correctly. I checked the Device Manager, and it says the SD controller is working properly. Checked for an updated driver, and none is available. WHERE does the SD card reader show up? Any suggestions? |

Yeah, I expected it to show up as a drive, but it doesn't. My USB key-drive shows up as drive E:, but the damned SD drive isn't showing up at all, and like I said, it's fully inserted and oriented correctly. I took the card out, and it's warm, so there's juice running through it... It is an SD MultiMediaCard, and I've hit refresh. Anything else? |
check the manufacturer's site for info or a support #. |
DFo you have any IT g33ks there??? who is the mfgr??? |
My key-drive shows up under disk drives, but the SD reader does not. |
In my outfit, I -AM- the IT G33K! As far as who the mfg is, it's a Dell component. The controller is SD "compliant". So we know what THAT means.

BTW: Using XP Pro, 5.1.2600 Looked under Device Manager, under every category. SD CONTROLLER shows up in its own category, with the proper logo icon. EDITED TO ADD: "Device type: Secure Digital Host Controllers Manufacturer: SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller Vendor Location: PCI bus 3, device 1, function 2" |
right click where is says the device, then change drive letter and path and change it to a different letter. then see if it comes up in my computer

The SD reader does NOT show up as a drive. I find the controller in the Device Manager, but it is not under Disk Management or Removable Storage under Computer Management. |

Thanks, guys. After sifting through all the SD card issues at the dell site, I found that MMC is NOT supported by the reader they use. What a waste of time. Anyway, I have another way to get the pics. I'll just email them to myself later. Thank you for your time. I would have thought that as common as MMC is, it would be supported. D'OH! ![]()
So, non-functionality is within guidelines? THANKS A HEAP! ![]() First problem with this laptop, and I have to admit, it's pretty minor, and can be worked around. I'll finally hook up the MFP I got with it, as it has a 6-card reader on it. If THAT doesn't take MMC, then I might get irritated. |
