Anybody else stocking up on ammo , extra mags , water and food , I even bought some gasmasks and medical supplies. You think its going overboard or are you doing it to? |
I always use the buy a 1,000 use 500 and set aside 500 rule on my ammo purchases, after the AWB went away, I picked up a full case of 30 rounders from SAW |
But, will your money be worth anything when society collapses? BTW, how do you stop these tinfoil hats from tarnishing in the shower? Mine has a ring around the edges that just won't come out!
|
If all these scenarios happen I doubt money will be worth anything. Material goods will be the new money. Roy |

Ok Roland, under normal circumstances I can see how stashing some cash can be useful. I myself have a some cash stashed in my gun safe. But, if TS really HTF exactly how valuable will paper money be? In other words if there is a total collapse of society cash money, even gold will become valueless. If you cant' eat it, shoot it, wear it or live in it, it becomes useless. |
To borrow a quote from another tread "``We just live in a world where, sadly, these kinds of security measures are necessary,'' Mayor Michael Bloomberg said. ``Are they intrusive? Yes, a little bit. But we are trying to find that right balance.'' |
Bricks of .22s would make more sense as a form of currency. As would bottles of booze to use for barter. However, even in a total breakdown, I think cash will still have some use, as long as you don't rely on it alone. People will still sell "stuff" and they'll accept payment for it. A guy selling you a gallon of gas from the back of a truck for $50 will take cash. That level of business isn't concerned about the banking system or the Federal Reserve. They just know they can trade the bills for some other commodity that they can use. The actual value (or lack thereof) of the bills doesn't enter into their thinking. Those of us who live in cities will still encounter other residents and do "business" with them. If you are talking about barricading yourself in your compound and not interacting with any other people, then cash is pretty worthless unless you enjoy sitting around and counting it for amusement. |

Personally, I find the 'society collapsing' scenario pretty far fetched. On the other hand, a major natural disaster or hazmat incident (train derailment, vehicle collision, terrorism , etc.) is definitely something to think about and many of the necessary items are the same. Not long ago, the PNW had a major storm roll through and a few areas did not get utilities back for seven days. Just think about what a big, REALLY big, earthquake could do. At least we don't have hurricanes. ETA: We make joke about the need for condoms, but lest we forget, birth control REALLY IS vital during major power outages.

| Im not stocking up on ammo, but reloading supplies. That way I can make what i need and any friends need, and sell it to them at a decent price. Plus i can sabotaged ammo to my enemies. Like reload rifle ammo with pistol powder. But that a whole other story. Being able to reload also means being able to strip their ammo apart and use the powder and bullets if i dont have matching guns chambered for the same round. |
You're kind of scaring me, man... |
Lol, thats what my wife says. |
If we get to that point this country will be GLOWING from radiation, there won't be a traditional enemy to fight. |
|
if TSHTF ever happens you probably will only be able to take what you can carry, just like in the movie War of the Worlds.. >food & water >first aid kit >candles, flash lights >keep vehicles with full tank of gas at all times >cash >concealed hand gun & couple boxes of ammo for personal protection |
I have quite a lot of ammo.
lol
!
