The enviro-weenies will not allow it. That goes for SoCal as well as the rest of the US. I think SoCal has one plant in the building process right now, but that's it. If this was a local hot spell (say just SoCal and Arizona) we won't be having a problem. We can import energy from throughout the southwest. Unfortunately everywhere in the SW is fugging hot right now. |

Hottest day so far down here in East San Diego (97 right now). No wonder we're in Stage 2. I just deal with it. Haven't run the HVAC in a year, it makes the electric meter look like a fucking slot machine spinning and my bill under those conditions is enough to give someone a coronary on the spot. |
Last week here in Sac we had 5 days of 100+ I dread seeing my bill for this month Sgatr15 |
Somebody from Las Vegas will be along shortly to tell us we are a bunch of panty wastes. I actually turned on the AC for the first time this year on Saturday. I do so enjoy hanging at my buddy's house. He likes to keep his house at 66f. |
Its not the heat it is the |
| This is one of the reasons that I designed our new home. We have R23 in the walls, R30 in the roof. A 16 SER AC and 8 to 10 KWs of solar panels on the roof. and all the rooms wil have ceiling fans. For the winter, we have 97% gas heater and a hi effiency wood fireplace. |
Up front money in the construction more than pays for itself down the road. |
But you live in New Joisey. ![]()

It IS double-paned. All brick with 6 inch exterior walls. I've thought about going triple-paned. I've thought about bricking up the windows. |

OK now look at the line...Free South Jersey....We are looking to create a new state, I free people's state! On the real side, Hey Bama, the house came standard with 2 X 6 walls and Anderson 400, low E windows. I had the windows speced taller than normal. In the summer we will have more air flow, over the next two years we are adding an "L" shaped front porch to shelter the dining room, an 8' porch over part of our rear deck. each one will have one outdoor ceiling fan. For the winter, there is only one small window on the north wall. The North East rooms, which will get the worst weather in the winter. Are the Formal living room and above it, the guest room. Both can easily closed off. For the HVAC, we are using two seperate units. Instead of pushing air up a flight, there wil be aounit inothe attic. Both are seperately controlled and the most advanced technology. For instance the AC runs as a dehumidfier between cooling cycles. If you have ever been frustrated living in a 2 story house by the temperature difference, each area can set their own tepperature. Best is on a hot day where everyone is running tehir AC, we shouldn't need to, all the extra power gets sold back to the utility. The Mortgage company was even in favor of it, it shows as a positive cash flow. For Hot water, we are using a light commercial 12 GPM flow, constant flow water heater. With a Prissy daughter that saves money at shower time. The house has an 80 gallon jaccuzi in the master bedroom and 5' shower with two shower heads, The house wil use CF lights when possible and they will be controlled by our Home Computer. If we forget to shut a light off when we leave in the morning, the computer will do it. This equipment will add about $35,000 to the cost of the house. |
