Google earth was compiled from satelite photographs.  Some if the photos are from as far back as 3 years ago and certain areas are obscured by clouds.

Still it's a facinating piece of software.  I wonder how often they plan to update the images.

It's cool to set up directions and then "play" the route overflight.

DeLorme TopoUSA had the 3D stuff for awhile, although the photo overlays in Google Earth do add quite a bit. Cool toy.
