I have seen 3 diffrent trucks that people have taken the beds off of this week that are being driven around town.

Is this just local to here or new, because I havent been it before, one was a new F150 with a new paintjob on it too.

I dont get it, Im going to get the mpg of a truck, and the space of a compact car for storing stuff by doing it

i drove an old '90 model f-150 around for a while with no bed...only because it had a massive dent in it and my brother had removed it to work on getting the dent out, but i would still be able to drive it..

It does save on gas mileage

Doesnt seem it would take off that much weight, after helping someone take one off to get water out of the gas tank, twice they never seemed that heavy

They might be having some body work done to the bed.  You don't have to do without a ride if your bed needs repair.

Well, you are in Georgia!

People do that all over the country, and not just while they are working on the bed - some think it looks cool, or red neck, or something.

no beds or a flatbed? flat beds are very common here, all the ranchers use them for hauling hay and towing horse trailers.

As far as the one with a fresh paint job, 99% of the time its best to remove the bed and paint it seperately, and it also allows acess to the back of the cab of the truck.

Usually, someone is in the process of painting, switching to a flat bed or switching the regular bed for a service body.

Occasionally in Moab you will see trucks, SUV's and jeeps with chopped, bobbed or streamlined rear ends to eliminate rear approach angle and make it easier to climb around on the rocks. Sometimes the pickup beds are removed and replaced with narrowed and shortened flatbeds, often incorporating a roll bar, tool kit, tire and gas can racks.

I took the bed of my truck for good last year--replaced it with a fort made out of ammo cans.
