On CMT right now is a documentary about Mearle Haggard's "Okie from Muskogee" and it's effect in 1969.

I was born in '70 but until I was in the sixth grade, I literally did not KNOW there was ANYTHING but country, thanks to my dad. When I found out about rock, I said goodbye to country, but these days I'm finding myself longing for some of those classic songs.

I think I need to get myself some Tom T. Hall, for starters...

Plus, Tom T's a BIG blackpowder hunter.And a fine songwriter/poet to boot.

Damn, I'll bet that's a good show.

Probably explains why one of the guys started singing the song at work today. He didn't do too bad, and I hadn't heard the song in yeeeeaaaaars. I remember when it came out. I was 9 and loved it. Still do.

They said he debuted the song live for a group of soldiers at Ft. Bragg. As soon as he was done the C.O. came on stage and took the mic away and said, "we'll have no more music...until we hear THAT song again."

Try some Hank William, not to be confused with Hank Williams Jr.

Then there's Patsy Cliene(spelling).

Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson.

Also some of the more recent Country Artists that I like are Garth Brooks(As a singer/performer, Billy Joel wrote most of his hits), George Strait, Randy Travis, Toby Kieth, Charlie Daniels, Chris Ladue (may he rest in peace), there are others.
