Well tonight I initiated Operation SALAGS (Stop Acting Like A Fat Shit). Having gone from a lean 210lbs to a chunky 250lbs in a matter of two years, my frustration at being fat and unhappy with my weight finally boiled over and provoked me to do something. I'm going to start eating more sensibly (slowly changing cause I've tried the sudden switch and it always fails), and tonight I ran my first timed mile in a good three years. I normally ran a 7-minute mile in high school at the peak of my fitness and wanted to see how far I slipped tonight.

After doing a mile with some hills in it (mine as well challenge myself) I finished with a time of 8:21. Not exactly a powerhouse performance but I hadn't gotten as bad as I had expected.

I plan on running one mile a day until I'm back down to 7:10 or so. At that point I'm either going to try to keep lowering it and hit the 6-minute mile I never could or bump the distance up to 1.5 miles and aim for 10:30 or less for a time.

Either way, it's time for a change, and tonight marks the beginning of my journey to lose 40+ pounds sensibly and without any fad diets. Just good old healthy eating and plenty of exercise.

Good luck in getting back to where you want to be. If you are highly motivated enough, you'll get it done. And it sounds like you are.

I feel your pain. Last December I was feeling like a fat, lazy, POS at 275lbs.
I started eating less, eliminated sugar from my diet and by April I was weighing 225lbs.

That's where i'm at now, 6'3" 225lbs. I just started hitting the weights and cardio and i'd like to get to 200lbs with 10% body fat by Halloween. I'm at 16% right now.

Just remeber not to gauge your progress solely by the scale. Lean muscle will cause you to weigh more on the scale, but your body will expend and burn calories more effeciently as you get more fit.

Good luck, the first couple of weeks is the tough part. Once it becomes routine, it's a piece of cake.

Congrads, it's tough work and dedication will guide you!  OOOOpps, No BEER for you!

I have tried just dieting before but always failed. It's time to take it to the next level and get myself reined back in.

I feel your pain.  I recently took a job that has me driving 8-1200 miles a week, and spending most of my working hours in a convenience store.  Weekends I have a girlfriend that insists on cooking to feed an army despite the fact that there is only two of us.   I have balloned from 210 to 250 since Labor Day.  I am desperately seeking a practical solution that dosen't involve quitting my job or dumping the girl...   Ugh.

Good luck to you.

Good luck to you as well . I'll be posting updates once a month or so just to show if I've changed any.

I've been on Atkins for just short of a month, with one weekend break.

I'm fitting into pants that I bought 4 years ago, and my newer clothes are beginning to fall off.

I'm at 245-250. I must have started at around 270. Goal is 210-220 max.

As soon as I get moved (early next month), I'm going to see if I find a gym. They're building a Gold's Gym right down the street from my apartment, so it should be easy eventually.

Doing Atkins is VERY easy in Laredo!

GO FOR IT, buddy!

My junior year of HS I weighed 278 on new years day I did JUST the Atkins diet...(hardcore, maybe 5 carbs a day for 4 months) and I lost 40 pounds.  35 of them stayed off....(I didn't do a single pushup or ANYTHING and my bench-press only went down 15 pounds (and I recouped that in less than a month)

Since then I have done that Atkins diet for a few more months at a time, 75% of the weight loss stays off...I'm running a lot more now and stuff and I'm at 205 (can't get lower no matter how fucking hard I try lol)...(I'm 6'1" btw)

Robo I know how you feel, I was at the 250 mark myself a year ago.

Now I am at 195, and trying to get down to 180 :)

Keep it at man, it takes time.

My dream weight is about 190 or so. No matter how hard I worked in high school the best I could ever do was 205 though

I started operation SALAFS a couple months ago because I hit the 200 lbs mark and decided enough was enoguh. I was doing an hour of excercise daily. The only diet changes I made were switching to diet sodas and granola bars instead of cookies. I didn't lose any weight for a month. I stopped excercising for a week when I was away for a trip, and couldn't get back in the groove after getting back. However, for  the past 2 weeks I have been losing about 1 lb/day! It's weird but now I am down to 190 even though I wasn't excercising, just the small diet change.

9 months ago when I got here in Kosovo, I weighed 250 pounds, and ran a mile in 9:52.  10:01 was failing.

Now, I run all the time, breath less hard, and am 40 pounds lighter.

Of course, beer is forbidden to armed US personnel, here.  No beer, no beer gut!

I've also been drinking about a gallon and a half of water per day, cutting out the fats and sugars, and hitting the gym.

BTW:  I went from 150 to 250 in about 2 years, due to Filipino cooking after I got married 10 years ago.

I just lost another 100 pounds a few days ago:  I told my lying, casino-addicted girlfriend I wasn't coming back.

Oh well.  At least I won't disgust any prospective NEW girlfriends...

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR WEIGHT LOSS!!!!
