I am looking to purchase a metal detector but know nothing about them. I'll use it mostly for sarching throuhg Old Indian campsites trying to locate Lead bullets, etc......... What brand should I look for and how cheap can I expect to get a decent one? Yes I have found bullets in Old campsites |
| I had a 125 dollars Bounty Hunter Tracker 4 which worked fine for me. We were detecting a mile from Fort Dodge and I found numerous brass cases and lead bullets. Most of the artifacts around here are within the first few inches and it worked good for that. However it will not go deep. I have one now that does and it is driving me crazy, but I am a novice at metal detecting. |

I metal detect often but I only have the Walmart $150 special. It really sucks there is no discrimintation between targets and all the beeps sound the same. I have to dig every hole. But it does go deep, I guess if you are hunting in non trashy areas just looking for some chunks of lead it would work for cheap. And it picks up the smallest things. Pioneer 101. I will be buying a Whites high end machine probally this month though. My wife just bought me a cheappie to see if I liked it and I am now an addict. |
| I have the Pioneer 202. Hell you dont know if you have a dime, quarter, or whatever. It indicates a quarter or dime and it is entirely something else. It also will go deep around a foot but it goes off all the time. Trashy areas are about a no go. Pioneer are built by Bounty Hunter but I liked my Tracker 4 better. Mine is supposed to be exactly the same as the Bounty Hunter Quick Draw. |
