Hype or real??

There seem to be several threads about the non-sporting barrel import ban.

Any thoughts or comments?

I don’t see any evidence to support this claim just speculation, where is the ATF documentation/press release to support this.

I suspect this is dealer nonsense and will until there is something other than speculation and rumor.

If so they are doing so with the approval of our President and the Republican Party.

Yes, and they are doing so with the approval of our President.

Once again another Republican President infringes on gun owners rights. It doesn't matter if Democrats would do worse. Wrong is still wrong.

they are?  last I heard the ATF can ban imports of items "not suitable for public consumption" without any approval from the prez.

And who controls ATF policy? They are in the executive branch and ultimately answer to the President,  no?

I edited my post because the proof I found wasn't valid--I'll wait for an official statement.

I didn't even bother reading 99 % of the referenced posts, but I call BS.

The BATF has no legal authority to regulate or ban barells.

Barells are not firearms.

The BATF doesn't even have the authority to regulate importation unless directed by:

A) Action by Congress.

B) Executive Order.

To the best of my knowledge, neither of these has happened.

Yep...

There have been many threads that no plane hit the Pentagon on 9-11… I guess that is enough to make it so.

Again… evidence PLEASE.

Not really a big deal.  It will simply spawn a new cottege industry among US barrel makers.  Which would you rather have, a worn out been through three wars import, or a brand new US made tube that also adds to your parts count?  I believe the barrel on the L1A1 was in fact made by Green mountain.  It is chrome lined, brand new, and will shoot into 2 inches with crappy ammo.

many of the kits that get imported are like new, and a new barrel will turn a $100 perfectly serviceable rifle kit into a $250 perfectly serviceable rifle kit with a shiney new barrel.

I'd more likely believe Ruger would be for an import ban to help sell a gun that not that many want...wait a minute, that did happen. Nevermind...

I haven't read the referenced threads.....

But, wasn't this started by/distributed by Toad and his rants against ORF, etc for using the imported barrels that were shipped with the FAC G3 kits?

So we make our own barrels, here in the USA.

You're right, but until we get the gun laws repealled all the way back to the 1934 NFA, it's just damage control.

I know of Toad.  Tell me he didn't start this shit storm.

This debate has been done several times. Basically the importer can't built the kit into a gun but someone else can.  What I have been reading is that the ATF won't allow barrels to be imported now.

From the ak board thread:

Agency Information Collection Activities: Proposed Collection: Comments Requested - Action: 30-Day Notice of Information Collection Under Review: Application and Permit for Importation of Firearms and Ammunition and Implements of War (6/30/05)
That means its firemission time, they're asking for input.

Unfortunately, the older threads are not there.  However, some months ago, the same question was posted and it was tracked to a thread on hk54 detailing that accusing ORF of breaking the law using imported barrels in his builds.

I cannot say with absolute confidence that Toad "started" it, but he was doing his level best to perpetuate it.

Never met him or had any dealings with him but from what I've seen of his actions online I wouldn't put it past the fvcktard.  He seems like a total assclown & the type to turn snitchbitch.
