Just gives you that warm feel good feeling inside that reminds how much you really love this country, and just how proud you are to live here.

Boston has a nice version of the star spangled banner on their greatest hits album also.

But I only get the hackles up when I hear someone sing the full song, not the normal abbreviated version.

"American Idiot"

Just kidding. I don't really get my patriotism raised by hearing a song. Any song.

On the subject of patriotic songs, though, a discrepancy I just noticed.

It's kind of common around here to, when bands play the patriotic genre, along with God Bless America, the Star Spangled Banner, Stars and Stripes Forever, et cetera, to play the 1812 Overture.

The 1812 Overture was written by Tchaikovsky. To celebrate Russian victory in the Napoleonic Wars. Not the American War of 1812. It has La Marsellaise and God Save the Tsar playing in the background, for god's sake.

It. Is. Not. An. American. Song.

So why does it get lumped with Sousa and Key's works?

None.  Most of the stuff I listen to comes from liberal idiots (that's not to say they don't make good music).

Anything by Boston puts me in a good mood.  I don't really get into the patriotic stuff that much, but I'm definitely greateful for what the day is for.

Love their music, hate their politics...

For me, just about anything on THIS album will do.

And part of each sale benefits the USO.

The Star-Spangled Banner, leading into Declaration Day, by the metal band Iced Earth...

they do a KILLER "rock" version of the SSB. Rivals Hendrix's but remains true to the song.

(if you're interested, the CD is "The Glorious Burden", tracks 1&2)

A desperate situation
Forced to retaliation
The task ahead, a burden
Men will suffer, that's for certain
We'll charge into the fire
The cause, we must inspire
We raise our fist to tyranny
A high price, Freedom is not free

The odds are stacked against us
But with our resolve relentless
And arrogance their Weakness
Our cause is just, we won't be beaten
Upon this declaration
Will come a brand new nation
Where men are seen as equal
Governed by and for the people

Chorus
So we make our stand and pray
On this declaration day
For independence I will fight

With liberty I will defy
So we make our stand and pray
On this declaration day
Give me liberty or give me death
I'll fight 'till my last breath

With virtue as our beacon
Our cause is charged as treason
Battle worn and starving
Through the hell of war we'll keep marching
The birth of our new nation
An act of desperation
We'll force king George down to his knees
Capitulation

Repeat Chorus

Me as well.

But their music is fucking awesome, so I tend to overlook their politics somewhat.
