Went down to Office Depot, and found they were having a clearance sale on computers.  $200 mail in rebate, sounds good.  But they only have the display.  My experience has always been, display models are discounted approximately 10% off or so.  Thats about $75 or $100 off the normal price.   Get ready to check out and the "Mc manager" says its full price, because it has a rebate due to clearance.

So everyone else gets the same deal, and they take no risk.  Why would I buy a display model for full price?  Especially a computer.  Who knows what kind of damage could have been caused that you arent aware of.   Would you buy a display model computer for full price, or has that manager been smokin' something?  BTW I walked on that "deal".

The manager is trying to sell a "used" item at full price, using the rebate as a carrot.

Sounds like you were right to walk.

You made the right call.

I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with out of the box computers.  I'm not a power user or anything.  I'm building my next one.  If that doesn't work then maybe I'll buy stock in Alienware.

I should build mine also, I dont think I have the patience right now.  I heard that Alienware is way overpriced.  They do seem to be high in cost, when I checked on them.
