Hey, I got a question for the refrigerator guys....I have a Whirlpool (I think, I'll have to check...I don't remember offhand). fridge I bought new when I moved into my house going on three years ago. It is the type with the freezer on top...

Anyway, about a month ago I noticed there was considerable water gathering on the shelves...I thought one of my water bottles leaked so I just mopped it up, and didn't worry about it. Then I noticed a few days later...more water on the shelves.

So I tried to figure out where its coming from....it looks like it is dripping from a couple of vents/opening in the back, top portion of the fridge. I looked in the book, it looks like they are passages for air to and from the freezer. When you look at them, sometimes you can see the drips forming, which then drip down and collect on the shelves (which have the "lips" so spills stay on them and don't get all over) Quite a bit will pool and collect. Sometimes the drips are frozen.

It seems almost like something is wrong with the frost-free mechanism....is there a tube where the excess moisture is sent down to the drip pan on the floor under the fridge? Could this be blocked thus causing the moisture to back up? There doesn't appear to be any water in the drip pan when I look.

The fridge works fine, keeps everything cold, freezer freezes fine....I am just trying to get an idea of what the problem may be, and how much $$$ to fix it.....

Ohh, and I'll add too....I haven't seen this in the past three years, so I am assuming its a problem, not just excess moisture caused by high humidity...plus like I said, it is quite a bit of water, not just a few drops....

I THIINK the drain is plugged. Little nasties grow in there, the drain is a little hump inside the refrigerator compartment in the back of the fridge somewhere. You pull in out and clean the little puppy out and you're back in business. Also if you can check to be sure the drain hose is also free of whatever.
