Interesting they took the shot lawyer to Middlesex Memorial (about 2 miles away), but the shooter they take up to a Hartford hospital which is 20+ miles away.

Do you think they're hoping the shooter doesn't make the trip?

Gotta love those gun-free zones! A person on foot headed to or from a courthouse is almost certainly unarmed if he isn't a cop.

I don't know the hospitals in that area... but it might have to do with the trama center level rating at the emergency room, and the seriousness of each wound.

Locally we have about five good hospitals.  One is a hospital that does all the low income without insurance... and that is the bulk of the users.  EXCEPT when it comes to gun shot wounds.  They have the best ER as it relates to gunshot trauma.  Often they will skip the closer hospitals and take them to Truman Med Center for serious or complex GSW.  Just a guess, but that might be the reason for going to a hospital that was further away... because they have a better ER for the type of GSW.  It could have to do with the seriousness of the wound... one hospital better set up to handle the more serious wound... or maybe two GSW in one hospital might have taxed the staffing at the closer hospital.  Two serious GSW at one ER might not be the best way to provide the best care for each.

Just a thought!

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - A former state trooper killed his ex-wife, wounded her divorce lawyer and then shot himself Wednesday outside the courthouse where they were to appear for a hearing, law enforcement officials said.

Only LEOs are qualified to have high capacity magazines and assault weapons guys, trust the LEOS! Thank god he killed himself. Commiting suicide might be illegal someday

Could be.  Middletown doesn't have near the number of violent crimes that Hartford has, but the hospital itself is decent enough.

I just found it interesting.

Looks like another case of a guy getting shafted by the system and wasn't going to take it. It has nothing to do with his being a cop, only that the gun free zone doesn't affect him, unfortunately, not that I am for gun bans. When you can't get a fair deal, look out!!!

Now I don't claim to know the details of the case but this stuff happens more and more and usually the man always gets the shaft from the lawyers and the courts. It's tragic that this is what it has to come to to wake up our f*ed up legal system.

I don't know the situation or the ages of the kids but fail to see how leaving your kids without parents is any kind of solution. It is looked at by me as a selfish choice. So sad

As a local I am not to crazy about middlesex hosipital but Hartford has been a lifesaver (sept 17 1999 five way bypass) for me .

To make it 2mi from the courthouse to the hosipital you would have to drive around the block like four times. Not that it matters but it is more like 1500 ft,

I don't recall it being that close (I think the old Armory is around that distance) - but it is very close.  We're talking 2-3 min max (and that is at posted speed limits on Rt17)

The 'Gun Free Zone' of a courthouse most definatley applies to retired LEOs.  The only ones it doesn't apply to in that courthouse are ACTIVE State Troopers.  Yes I was in a courtroom during a case IN THAT COURTHOUSE when there was a brouhaha between an armed CT State Trooper and the presiding judge over the issue.  (Judge demanded NO guns in the courthouse - Trooper said they were under standing orders from the Gov to be armed at all times and would not relinquish his weapon.  After a breif recess the judge told the trooper to go home get into civilian clothes and come back carrying concealed - so nobody could SEE the gun).

That just proves that gun banners are morons. As to the rest of it, I didn't see where he was a "former" trooper. Sorry.
