| I have DSL service through the local phone company. The service comes through a 2Wire modem, then to a Belkin wireless router. Every so often when the phone rings it knocks out the internet service and I have to reboot the Belkin router. What can I do to fix this? |

Make sure you have cat 5 wire running from your modem to the Dmark (phone box on the side of your house). Also make sure you are using filters on all the lines inside your house except the one that your modem is on. If it still acts up call your DSL provider and tell them what is going on. They should be able to fix it over the line or might have to make a service call. |
+1 The first thing you should check is the filters or possible lack there of. ANYTHING that is hooked up to a phone line needs a filter... all phones, fax, satellite TV receiver , TIVO/DVR, phone computer modem. |
The filters would be the thing to check if he was having issues hearing modem noise in the phones, or the phones not working right. The problem is the other way around. Phones work, internet gets interrupted when phone rings. |
My Uncle's DSL service was dropping becuse of a satellite TV receiver hooked up to a phone line without a filter, everytime the satellite TV receiver dialed out it killed the DSL and you had to do a full reset of the DSL modem, router, and computer... we put a filter on the satellite TV receiver and no more problems. In some cases a unfiltered phone line can damage a DSL modem and can also reduce DLS speed. |
