When I am playing a game I go for about 15 mins and the computer just shits off, no warning, no beeps, nothing.   It just goes from playin great to off in the blink of an eye.

Now I can't turn the computer on.  Seems to me like maybe a heat problem or power supply.  Could it be the video card?

Can anyone shed some light on this?  Anyone ever experience a problem like this.

Thanks a bunch.

ETA:  This happened last night and this morning after I changed the power cord, the computer turned on but one of the two ports work.  The USB hub in the 2nd USB port wouldn't even work at all.

If I can get the computer on and wiggle the USB cable, I get one beep from the system.

I would guess power supply/overheated power supply.

Shut down open the case reset all cards, cables, memory, power connections.

Unplug all USB hubs and devices other than mouse and keyboard, reboot the check USB ports with a USB devise that does not use a lot of power.

What processor, computer model/motherboard, how much memory, video card, number hard & CD/DVD drives, and what USB devices are you using? What size is the current power supply.

I would guess its the thermal protection kicking in on the power supply.

Well, it appears to be solved.  Seems the video card was overheating.   Took the whole computer apart one piece at a time and cleaned it thoroughly.  As soon as I finished cleaning the video card, no more shut downs.  I played for about 1.5hrs of serious gaming and no issues at all.

Hopefully it remains stable!

It is a good idea to clean your machine every three months especially if you have pets. I would look in to getting an extra case fan or 2 if you have a place for them in the case.

Strange thing is, I cleaned it not a month ago.   There was hardly any dust in there.

I have 3 case fans, 3 power supply fans and ThermalTake CPU fan and a beefed up video card fan.  That thing has a ton of circulation.  Maybe too much?  lol.

Then my guess is you still have a problem...

Either the video card is failing, it is a power supply issue, or something else... as cruze5 said be prepared for trouble in the future.

Is the house cooler now than it was when you first had the trouble.

Yeah, I kind of fear I have taken care of a symptom and not the cause.  That system has been so good to us.  One of the better ones I have built.

No the house is actually warmer this evening than last night when it 1st happened.

If it pulls this crud again it's going to the range with me.

I actually had a very similar problem a few years ago with a Gateway computer, and eventually it wouldn't start at all, and my replacement of the power supply solved the problem.  Before it finally shut down for good, it would work for a while and then shut down very quickly, like when a power outage occurs.
