pictures

If you look close at the pictures you will see two "other" variations:

1. the vent ports either swing off at an angle, back to front
2. straight, back to front

I have a Bushmaster 1 in 7" w/phantom that has the sweeping ports and I just ordered a YHM ASSuming I would get the same thing (I thought YHM made the stuff for Bushmaster).  Needless to say, the YHM was staright.

So, what gives?  Is one version superior in doing its job?

Thank you in advance.

I've noticed the two different FH too, I don't know what's up other than esthetics?????

I was also curious why Bushy doesn't make an A2 FH that will conform with the BATF 16" <B.S.> law?

how does one permanently attach a threaded FH anyway

woops, I think I kinda hi-jacked this thread.. sorry JK

Phantom 5C1 Comp/Flash Hider

The populer phantom flash suppressor has been redesigned to work as a muzzle compensator while maintaining the excellent flash hiding capabilities of its predecessor. This 5 port design eliminates dust problems when shooting from the prone position. The 5C1 features a "no snag" design. Includes crush washer.

Phantom 5C2 Comp/Flash Hider

The popular phantom flash suppressor has been redisgned to work as a muzzle compensator while maintaining the flash hiding capabilities. This 5 port design eliminates dust problems when shooting prone. The 5C2 retains the aggressive front from the original Phantom for use in hand-to-hand situations. Includes crush washer.

Phantom Flash Hider

This flash hider virtually eliminates flash and is excellent for use with night vision. Incorporated into the design is the ability to use the hider in hand-to-hand situations. Includes crush washer.

eta: You're referring to the way the third one's slot is not symmetrical to the centerline?

The little twist in the end of the port reduces the flash by swirling the gasses.

Ok.  Sounds reasonable...  But do you/we have proof?

I looked through the flash hider test and it appeared that the phantoms tested were the ones with straight ports and they performed very well.

So...

Does the twist improve over the original design? ...does it decrease the performance?

Sorry no picts..
You will see no change in the performance, your just changing the shape of the fireball outside the flash hider. What’s really funs is a spiral ported muzzle break, reduces recoil and twist of the rifle. It also makes a groovy flash!
