Could anyone recommend a good home air compressor  for moderate use? I'm looking at a 60 gallon capacity 7hp model, but I'm wondering hom many cfm's I need for air tools.  Would a wise man avoid the Home Depot/Lowes models? Thanks...

INGERSOL RAND.  Some air tools have high air consumption, such as any double action sander, and a good sand blaster.  A two stage 80 gallon is needed for anything but intermittent use of these type tools.  I was running a 60 gallon single stage directly into the ground.

I currently own my third compressor.  When I bought one for my shop at work, I got an even bigger one.

Pay now or pay later.  If you get a higher quality IR, and buy their start up kit and mount kit, they extend the warranty to 5 years.

+1 on the Ingersol
It really depends on what you want to run. Large high-torque impacts take a lot of CFM. Small brad guns and even framing nailers will work with smaller comp's. If you are loking at  a 60 gallon, be sure to get a stand-up model that will take less floor space than a horizontal unit. Most large comp's need 240 volt, so that may be an issue to think about. Good luck.

You mean there are other brands besides IR?
