It always bugs me when racing organizations make rules that slow down the speed of cars. No, I'm not picking on NASCAR. This also goes for F1 and I'm sure other racing entities. What's the f'ing point of racing if not to go as fast as you can. I say let the drivers drive to their desires. If the drivers think it's too dangerous, then they'll slow down, but don't make the decision for them. They're adults.

If I were to make a racing league, the only restriction would be the size.
Rules:
1. The car has to fit in a pre-set size box.
2. If it fits, you can race it.

Faster cars don't always make for a great race.

If you go so fast that the racing line is narrowed down to one groove then NOBODY can pass.

All racing series are now either too fast or on the verge of being to fast.(except World Rally)

Racing for me is about the driver beating another driver. I can't explain it, but the speeds can be too fast.

It's all about the money...  You make more money when you keep the stars of the sport alive.  You make more money when the races are more interesting to watch and attract lots of people because the action is close  (i.e. the cars perform similarily).

Rally racing is one of my favorite forms of motor sport.  But it is also one of the least popular and therefore least lucrative.  Why?  The racing isn't close wheel to wheel action.  The cars race against a clock rather than each other (and the venue is difficult to access).

While drag racing isn't totally without regulation, I think it might be the closest to what you desire.

They are trying to restrict the speeds in Drag racing as well.

It's all politics anymore. Racing just isn't what it used to be.

Drag racing is slow and boring to watch. It's FUN to participate (on a sanctioned track of course) but even then waiting in the lanes is boring.

Rally racing is definitely fun to participate in and to watch on TV because they follow the action.

NASCAR is a bunch of oval tracks (Sears Point and Watkins Glen are exceptions but even Nextel cup drivers sometimes hire road racers for these races), zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

24 hours of LeMans is probably what you're looking for. You have 4 classes, GT1, GT2, Prototype 1, Prototype 2. So you can see some Audi V12, Panoz V8, Saleen Mustang, and a Porsche duke it out. The faster prototype cars will be flashing their high beams at the slow Porsches to pass them, etc...

Well, it's good to know that I'm not the only one agreeing with myself.

I do like watching drag racing now and then, but going in straight lines can only entertain me so long. I gotta give it to those guys though, I'd be scared as hell driving those monsters. Jeeeeze.

I do like watching LeMans and F1, I just wish there weren't rules that slow down the cars. They should just make it to where every F1 body was pre-set, but you can modify all the other mechanical aspects (mainly engine) as you wish as long as it fits within the body of the car.

Anyway, enough of my b'tching.
