I just downloaded the entire Pink Floyd discography. Crap... I guess I haven't been much of a fan... I didn't even know half these albums existed.

I was also looking at some of the pics of them from back in the day... what a bunch of ugly mothers they were.

So... what's your favorite Floyd song(s) and album(s)?
I have a hard time picking. I've always liked:
Welcome to the Machine
Sheep
Breathe
Time... there's really too man to pick one while I'm listening...
*If you don't like, never have liked, or never have listened to Pink Floyd then don't bother posting... because nobody cares. You silence will be an adequate response.

I always like Dark Side of the Moon.

I love The Wall and Darkside of the Moon. Though Wish You Were Here also rocks.
I just wish I was alive when Pink Floyd was still touring

In my opinion, Time is by far their best song and "Dark side of the Moon" is their best album.
The words to the song, man o man so true.

I've compared the guitar solo(s) in Comfortably Numb and while that’s some good stuff, the Guitar solo in Time is their best.

The fact that the song as a whole draws so much emotions from me even today is a testament to its quality.

I love Animals, Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall & Wish You Were Here the best.

Love Pink Floyd!!

I used to say that about a ot of bands... but nowadays I hate concerts.
Too many freaks, they don't let you bring your own chair, food, or drinks to those open-grass outdoor concerts, and there's always some drunken asshole that ruins my fun.

Not to mention seeing a band in concert usually ends up being seeing what could either be the band or a bunch of look-alikes lip syncing... I'd never know because I always buy the cheap seats and am pretty much looking at doll-sized performers...

I don't have all their albums but the ones I do have never disappointed me. Even the early stuff. I think your mindset, and environment at the time has a lot to do with how receptive you are to something new.

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Through the fish-eyed lens of tear stained eyes
I can barely define the shape of this moment in time
And far from flying high in clear blue skies
I'm spiraling down to the hole in the ground where I hide.

If you negotiate the minefield in the drive
And beat the dogs and cheat the cold electronic eyes
And if you make it past the shotgun in the hall,
Dial the combination, open the priesthole
And if I'm in I'll tell you what's behind the wall.

There's a kid who had a big hallucination
Making love to girls in magazines.
He wonders if you're sleeping with your new found faith.
Could anybody love him
Or is it just a crazy dream?

And if I show you my dark side
Will you still hold me tonight?
And if I open my heart to you
And show you my weak side
What would you do?
Would you sell your story to Rolling Stone?
Would you take the children away
And leave me alone?
And smile in reassurance
As you whisper down the phone?
Would you send me packing?
Or would you take me home?

Thought I oughta bare my naked feelings,
Thought I oughta tear the curtain down.
I held the blade in trembling hands
Prepared to make it but just then the phone rang
I never had the nerve to make the final cut.

You have to lick the pictures BEFORE you play the album for the full effect of their music.

Wish You Were Here is probably my favorite album, but its a hard choice.

Far as songs:
Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Both Songs)
Time
In The Flesh?
Wish You Were Here
Learning To Fly

If I could see any band in concert it would be Floyd with Waters and Gilmore reunited.

Oh, I forgot to mention The Final Cut, great stuff there too.
Umagumma has be their worst album in my opinion....some of the noise-art on that album is just annoying.

[#12]
i own 21 of their cds

i guess im still a "mainstream" floyd fan though.
1. the wall
2. dark side
3. wish you were here
4. animals
5. the final cut

as far as live cds go:
1. pulse
2. delicate sound of thunder
3. is there anybody out there?

those are the only 3 live cds ive heard, im sure there are more bootlegs

davids voice is FAR better than roger waters'....but i think rogers songwriting is better

I like and have all but 1 or 2 of their albums/CDs, but my favorites are:

Dark Side of the Moon
Wish You Were Here (still my favorite "intimate moment" music)
Meddle
5/20/2005 11:47:40 AM EDT
[#14]
I love all their stuff up until Darkside of the Moon.

After that, they were still a good band, but not as good as pre-Darkside, and sounded entirely different.

[#15]
Animals
Breath

Piper at the Gates of Dawn and Animals are probably my favorite albums.

I also love :When the tigers broke free (it is in the movie, not the album) I have a good version of the London Philharmonic doing and arrangment of that.

Totally with you, there.  I'm a big fan of the old stuff like Saucer Full of Secrets, Meddle, Ummagumma, etc.  Have you seen the "Live at Pompei" DVD yet....there is a section of the DVD that is STRICTLY the concert without the interviews and such.....REALLY AWESOME!!!!  "Echoes" in that old ampitheater is just SWEEEEET!!!!!

Some of their very early stuff doesn't do it for me - anything Meddle or later I love! I guess I agree that Sid belongs in a mental ward - they started making music instead of just sound effects albums once Gilmour joined the band....

8th row floor, right in the middle, about 40 feet from the stage.  One of three times I've seen them.

But, its "The Final Cut", that always moves me.

That's a great DVD-  I like that they included the original film along with the new director's cut.  I'd seen the original, and still enjoy that one more than the director's re-cut.

See my sig line..... from "Us and Them"  on "Dark side"

Also any pilot should love this song:

Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction holding me fast, how
Can I escape this irresistible grasp?

Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted Just an earth-bound misfit, I

Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything
No navigator to guide my way home
Unladened, empty and turned to stone

A soul in tension that's learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, I

Friction lock - set.
Mixture - rich
Propellers - fully forward
Flaps - set - 10 degrees
Engine gauges and suction - check

Mixture set to maximum percent - recheck
Flight instruments...
Altimeters - check both
(garbled word) - on
Navigation lights - on
Strobes - on
(to tower): Confirm 3-8-Echo ready for departure
(tower): Hello again, this is now 129.4
(to tower): 129.4. It's to go.
(tower): You may commence your takeoff, winds over 10 knots.
(to tower): 3-8-Echo
Easy on the brakes. Take it easy. Its gonna roll this time.
Just hand the power gradually, and it...

Above the planet on a wing and a prayer,
My grubby halo, a vapour trail in the empty air,
Across the clouds I see my shadow fly
Out of the corner of my watering eye
A dream unthreatened by the morning light
Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night

There's no sensation to compare with this
Suspended animation, A state of bliss
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earth-bound misfit, I

...Damn near everything by them is OK in my book. Sid Barret was crazy, too bad he went all the way over the edge. Seen Pink Floyd four times total and Gilmore and Waters solo each once. By far, I consider the band my all-time favorite artist.

Love Pink Floyd.  Got to see them in concert at Tampa Stadium sometime in the late 80's.  I still have some of their old albums stashed away someplace.  Still need to find some of the older CDs.

There is a tribute band out of Australia that is supposed to do an AWESOME Pink Floyd show. In fact their name is Australian Pink Floyd. They tour all over though. In fact they were just in Boise, but I couldn't go. From some people who have seen the originals and went to the show, this tribute band is supposed to be as good in terms of sound and better in terms of show (recreating the psychedelic look).

If they come back through I will definately be going as I love Pink Floyd music.

My favs are:
Shine on You Crazy Diamond
Young Lust
Comfortably Numb
Hey You
Sheep
Have a Cigar
Any Colour
Time
Learning to Fly
Money
See Emily Play
Mother
The Show Must Go On
In the Flesh
.....are the only ones I can think of right now. Syd Barret had one and only one song I like from his solo career and that's Jiggalo Aunt. Definately ranks up there with some of the best Floyd songs.

They're definately one of the best bands ever.

Best Album: Atom Heart Mother

Best Track: Money

Not on the same album. Dark side of the Moon had, at one time, outsold any other album ever recorded! The biggest seller of all time. I imagine it's still close.

Dark Side was tied for #2 in all time sales (tied with Thriller, sadly) as of last year. The #1 best selling album/CD of all time is.......

Eagles Greatest Hits 1971-1975.

Dark Side remained on the Billboard Top 200 for an incredible 14 years! Far longer than any other record. It was the highest selling album of all time for many years. I read somewhere that at one point 35% of homes in the US had at least one copy, and over 80% of those who bought it replaced it after wearing it out at least once (before CD's).

BTW, the SACD release of Dark Side, played through a high end system, is almost a religious experience!

I love these 3 equally. I listened to the Wall 8 track on head phones so many times in the 80's that it still rings in my memory.

Wish You Were Here
The Wall
Dark Side of the  Moon

Funny, post 169 is kind of an oxymoron if you think about it.

I nearly have them all plus a few dozen bootlegs - everything from the mono days to the latest edition of DOTM from earlier this year.

Some of the really old stuff - Meddle, Atom Heart Mother, Saucerful of Secrets, Obscured by Clouds is a little rough as the early recordings were the best but the sound is still amazing. Of course the albums from Animals on forward are amazing as the Floyd employed the best and brightest sound engineers and producers.

Five of the six CD's in my new car's player are Pink Floyd.

Too many great songs and albums for me to pick one. Listening to "Wish You Were Here" now. Went to bed drunk with a stack on Pink Floyd albums on the stereo and the head set on many Friday nights. Nice dreams.

Side trivia note. Who was the engineer for "Dark Side of The Moon"?
