.....if I want to buy a pair of night vision goggles to walk around in the dark with at night? ![]() Most I could afford is a $600 pair of ATN Cougar Gen 1+ NVGs, can't swing the 1,600+ for Gen 2, much less the 3K+ for Gen 3

I think it would make you a keyboard kommando if you were to expouse certain tactical mandates relative to low light situations. Like; "You're a pussy if you don't have a pair of Gen 1 NVG's next to your bed." Or; "C'mon over to my house and I'll throw on my Gen 1 NVG's and take your ass out on the front lawn. I OWN THE NIGHT BITCH!" Something along those lines. |
Sounds like I'm in the clear then |
it' just like buying a flash lights. gen 1 5.00 flash light minimag a few feet and not much ill. gen 2 20.00 flash light 5 dcell maglight 50 yds gen 3 60.00 flash lihgt Surefire 100 yds. |
Good analogy. I have used Gen 2 and without an IR-lens-equipped flashlight you are limited, as well. When I get ready for NVG's, I'm going to save my money and get a set of PVS-7's. |
The thing you have to ask yourself is whether or not you want to drop $500-$1k on something that doesn't work very well (I've had gen1/2). That's sillier (IMHO) than spending $3k on something that does work very well. |
ATN was one company I was looking at for NVGs....guess I can scratch them off the list

Anything that involves getting off your ass and actually trying something out excludes you from being a keyboard commando. Reading the posts of others and posting theory as knowledge makes you a keyboard commando. For example, I have never tried any NVGs and if I were to advise you to not get Gen 1 goggles, that would make me a keyboard commando. |

as much as people don't wanna hear it gen 3 reallly is they way to go. and even then, i was dissapointed in mine after i started using a thermal sight. but for about 99% of what people want to do gen 3 is where its at. Of course, gen 3 with crappy optics sucks, so its one of those things where you really do need to do the research before you drop the dimes for it. |
Yeah, I couldn't believe the difference even with a pair of early gen3 7C's.
Now that's what I don't want to hear! ![]()
Yeah, based on my gen2 experience, I would stay away from ATN in any form. |

Relax Roboman... there nothing you could post that would make you any more of a keyboard commando than you already are. (ok... what am I gonna type for this post, so he doesn't know I think he already is one... aw shit... I'm thinking out loud... AGAIN.) j/k ![]() Quality NVG is a good investment.
