A Friend of mine works at a company that makes struts for cars and they got a new machine. Not sure what the machine does but my friend is tasked with cleaning it out so it can be put to use and he finds about 40-50 bullets that were turned on the machine. They appear to be made out of a steel alloy of some kind he said on the Rockwell standards when he tested it, it was very hard I want to say in the 83-84 area (I may be remembering this wrong) (and I know a lot of knives are in the 50'S) I got the bullet in the mail today it is 30cal looks like it would be perfect size for .308. It is very heavy and I couldn’t scratch it with my dremmel. My Question is wouldn’t this screw up a barrel. Also one of his co-workers took about 20 of them home to reload them for his 30-06. I told him to tell his friend to do a little research on these bullets before trying something stupid like that. ![]() |
| I thought maybe AP but with out a soft jacket to protect the barrel say bye bye to barrel. I mean when you hold this bullet it plays with your head because its so much heavier than any bullet in the .30 range that i have ever held...I am going to see how much it ways and ill post here tommorrow. sorry no cam for pics shinny boat tail, shiny tip, dull where it was cut from a rod or something. |

If you fire them they WILL remove your rifleing. With the possibility of bulging your barrel. If they would of been made from mild steel then it would of been ok for a couple of shots, but a RC of 50 Nope... They have fired mild steel bullets from 50 bmg bolt guns for comp. Barrel life was in the 200-300 rnd range. |
He said RC in the 80'S Ill call him tonight and make sure. |
Thoses sound like center punches. Do not fire thoses... Well I take that back.. get some 50cal sabots and Load in a 50 bmg and your golden! |
