Which do you feel is the overall better rifle? Concider everything, durability, reliability, accuracy, service life ect. I own both a STG58 and a JLD G3 clone and I'd have to give the edge to the FAL. |
Nah......I think thats the general trend.........the G3 is a great rifle for reliability - but I can't see how people like the ergonomics and sights on it.......to each their own. The G3/HK91 works fine - not my bag though. |

G3 is a nice weapon for sure, and it certainly has the HK mystique. but if you think an AR poops where it eats, then you've never had a G3 on your hands, those things get dirty in a hurry. the accuracy potential of the G3 is a bit higher than the FAL due to the lack of pivoting bolt and gas piston. FAL is more rugged, doesnt destroy brass, has an adjustable gas regulator, better ergonomics. I give the nod to FAL |
For the REAL thing the HK G3, for US clones the DSA FAL. I have found most US clones of the G3 to be "problematic." |

FAL, the other EBR. I have shot the G3 in Germany. It looks nice and all but it just didnt feel right. I shot the FAL in Belgium at their ParaCommando school (awesome school BTW) and it was pretty nice. Rappelling with it kind of sucked but it shot real nice. ETA Belgium Paracommando school is schweet. Did a baloon jump there. |
Yup slimlines on full auto kinda suck. |
come on, we're big boys, you dont need to sugar coat everything |
I was debating this myself a little. I currently have a Cetme with most of the bugs worked out. Hard to beat $2 mags and complete reliability. I was going to put a G3 clone next on the list of things to get, but may go with a FAL instead. I gotta admit though that the Cetme and its derivitives like the HK 9xs are utterly simple in design and certainly quite accurate. |

I've shot both. I bought a DSA SA58C a couple of months ago and I'm getting wood just thinking about running downstairs to crack the safe and fondle it. It's my first FAL, but definately not my last. I'll get around to buying a G3 someday. I won't tell you how I voted, but as of right now, my candidate is in second place. |

Whichever one Al Pacino used in Heat. Never shot an FAl. Owned a Sprinfield G3 clone (SAR-8) and I liked it but not enough to keep it. I do agree that the G3 looks better than the FAL. This probably hasn't really answered the question though... liberals can all die... I regret nothiiiiiiiiinnnnnng. |
Yes, Iran used them. Also the G3 had the best performance record of any NATO rifle fielded in Gulf War I. Now one should take the following into consideration. The G3 was employed on a very limited scale during that conflict so performance coparissons to say the M16/M4 are hardly fair. If you fielded only 10 rifles of a particular type and they saw very little combat they could turn in the best perfomance record of the conflict. Now obviously more than 10 were fielded and they probably saw more than a bit of action but the notation had to be made. |

Kind of depends on what you want it for, I have a DSA STG58 and a HK 91, both are great battle rifles but if you are looking for a SHTF rifle go with the HK design. Why?. try this, get twenty different types/ brands / weights of .308 and load one from each box into a mag for each rifle. the FAL system needs the gas bleed adjusted to cycle properly and will hang up but the HK will cycle thru the whole magazine without a hitch. I have fired 147 to 180 grain bullets with no hang ups at all thru my HK. Now, if you have a whole crapload of ammo that is all the same I would go with the FAL as it is a bit gentler on the sholder. BTW if you want to see a muzzle flash from hell try firing 180 grain hunting loads at night from your G3 clone, awesome!, even with the FH. Just my experiences... |

I've got clones of both in my safe. Both are reliable, never a single problem. Both are more accurate than I am. Both appear to be quite durable. Both are heavy. The G3 kicks a little more and dents the brass (the brass ejects 30-40 feet!), but it goes bang every time and the bullet goes where I want. I also have the thin-stock with the flimsy heatshield, so the G3 will heat up quite hot after some extended shooting. I usually just put on a thick leather glove for my left hand...I keep saying I'm going to redo the heat shield or something. Anyone make a Nomex heat shield? hehe... The FAL feels more comfortable and balanced ergonomically. While staying on target, I can shoot faster with the FAL than I can the G3. The G3 feels like more of a workout to shoot, where I could shoot the FAL for a longer amount of time. My G3 has a big muzzle-brake, so it's LOUD...and that could be a contibuting factor. I still like the AR better for "if I needed to" type situations, but between the G3 and the FAL, in "an event" I'd be reaching for the FAL. As an additional note, I've fired the similarly designed MP5 subgun a few times and it's a dream to shoot...I was amazed at how quick and accurate I could shoot. |

How can you possibly start a poll on ARFCOM without the "BOTH" option?
