My daughter has had a fever and sore throat since Friday. She has slept much of today. I finally got her to let me look in her throat and I see small white puss pockets on the back of her throat, which is also very red. Possibly Strep? She has had her tonsils and adnoids out if that makes a difference. |

Uh, I'd go to an ACTUAL doctor? I never do understand why people come HERE, to ask for medical advice. Sure, comehere to ask for love advice, gun advice, house advice, but medical advice? It's your (or someone's ass) you're playing with there. If it's enough to concern you, head to the Doc or the ER. Edit: no flame intended, I still suggest a doctor visit. |
She is going to the Dr tomorrow. I was trying to find out someway to make her feel better tonight if it is indeed what I believe it to be. |
| I think a non-MD has to offer advice first, then the Doctors will come swooping out of the woodwork, destroying the advice giver with a literary thrashing the likes of which are rarely seen on the Internet, a verbal pummelling so profound, that it makes Al Gore shake his head and wonder why he ever invented the net in the first place... |

Yeah I see. Don't bother with any more replies guys. The sarcasm is duly noted and unappreciated. I wasn't asking for a long explanation of why I shouldn't ask for advice here. All I Was doing was asking for simple advice on my daughters current condition. I've seen people ask for medical advice before and it has never been a big deal. We have Dr.s, EMT'S and several people here who are qualified to give friendly advice. |

MrsG, sorry your daughter isn't well, and sorry you ran into such a tough crowd. I hope that you are able to make her more comfortable through the night, and that she gets better soon. I know how distressing it can be to have a sick little one. Prayers headed your way. |
| I don't think the white spots mean that it is strep for sure, my kids have had that and it wasn't strep. Not that you haven't already done it but just use some of that clorseptic (sp?) throat spray, it will numb it for a bit so she can get some sleep and the doc will fix her up in the morning, good luck |
Have her gargle with salt water. Trust me..it works..ask my wife. Doctor Sgtar15 MD, PhD & DMF |
Sounds like strep or sinusitis. Is you daughter old enough for Ibuprophen, try some for pain, also with kids diversion is a very good way to get too sleep. Give her a milkshake, a movie and sit down and wait til she falls asleep, unless she can't swallow then, you may have a bigger problem and she should be seen in ER ASAP. Any allergies, how recent was Tonsilectomy, could also be infection if done inm last 6-12 mos. Hope this helps. Sorry she is not well. |
|
She has sinus problems, but says her sinuses are fine. She had her tonsiectomy about 13 years ago. (she is 15). Allergies are all drug allergies, no seasonal or hayfever or stuff like that. She hasn't eaten anything to speak of all weekend. She drinks some, but very little. She knows the importance of this, but I can't sit on her and make her drink. Sarge Im inbound. |
|
Make her a nice strong broth/tea mixure. Then add just a touch of honey and a squirt of lemon if you have it. Then hand it to her and tell her you added 2oz of whiskey in it because that will help her get some rest. It will be a lie but she will probably be alot more willing to drink it. And yes, another trick the wife ![]() Sgat1r5 |
+1 on the salt water gargle |
| She has enough of the holy trinity to get put on anti-biotics for strep. Fever and exudate are enough usually to treat it that way, assuming she has no other medical conditions, or health problems, other medications, etc. and assuming your physical assesment is correct(no offense intended really). She very well could have strep and I would definitely take her to the doc. If she is very young she obviously can't gargle with salt water. I would give her lots of icy-pops(as long as she is not diabetic, assuming they contain sugar), to keep her hydrated, and to sooth her throat. Icy-pops work wonders until the doc can see her. Tylenol(as long as not contra-indicated) every 4-6 hours, and Motrin two hours after the tylenol, and then every 6- 8 hours for the fever. I don't know your daughter, or her physical condition, this is just a suggestion, and I'm pretty buzzed on wine, and I haven't been in the medical field for a few years. Sorry she is sick, I hope she feels better soon. |

Strep would be rare post-tonsillectomy. Symptomatic treatment would include throat sprays/lozenges and cold like popsicles. Most cases like this are viral; mononucleosis being very common. IF it is strep, early treatment with penicillin (the drug of choice) will not change the course of the illness, but rather decrease the likelihood of complications like rheumatic fever/heart/kidney disease. |
| Most likely she will be placed on some antibiotics. A penicillin is all she needs. Nothing fancy for what she has. She just needs to rest and hydrate herself. The other thing to check in people her age with symptoms like this is MONO. Many times teens will be teens and they spread such diseases around. Ask the doc to check for this as well as strep. |
Hey--you've been reading my post. |
MONO!! Not my little girl!!! I'll mention that though. |
Hey, I remember some primary care! But I am always glad to be able to consult smarter docs then me on the board. The primary care guys are the true doctors and care givers. Us specialists are more limited but also important too. But everything starts with a good PCP. Damn didnt read the post T and A part. LOL. Strep is unlikely. Most likely its a virus like Astro said. Rest and fluids. Tylenol for fever and pain. Not much more to do. |

Sorry if I have missed this, but chlorospetic throat spray will numb it up till you can get her in to the doc. Tastes like cherry and this way they drink alot. Great stuff! If cough happens, I use corn syrup in a pinch. Fantastic to coat the throat and lets them sleep instead of cough. I also brew strong decaf tea, mix with corn sryup or honey [depending on age] and add lemon. Watch the citrus though. With those blisters, the lemon might hurt. Let us know what the good dr says. Sounds like strept to me too. But could be just a bad virus. God bless her little soul!! joyce |
