I'd like to buy my g/f a digital camera for her birthday. I've got a Minolta S414 that I love but unfortunately they don't make them any more. I bought my sister a Canon A75 for Christmas and it broke within a month (CF port pins bent due to a faulty CF card that came with it.) I'd prefer to avoid Canon since they refused to take responsibility for their faulty CF card causing the damage to my sister's camera. Can anyone recommend a decent digital camera that isn't a Canon? I'd like to keep cost around $200 or less. Features to have would be: 3 Megapixels or more, built in flash, able to use rechargable batteries, optical zoom of at least 3x. Would like something that feels "sturdy" as some of these cameras feel like they're all plastic and would break easily. If I can't find something that fits the bill then I'll consider a Canon, but would prefer it to be a last resort. |

I have a Canon PowerShot G5 (5 megapixels) and like it a lot. I believe it's been discontinued. The G6 (7.1 Mpel) looks great. consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=144&modelid=10463 |

My wife's birthday is Saturday. I bought her the Sonty DSC - P10 yesterday. $269 plus $50 for a 128MB memorty stick. It's a 5 MP camera. We have a Kodak LS420 now (2.2MP) and it has served well for 5 years but we needed a new camera with at least a 4MP resolution. I'll post a review after I give it to her. |

For what it is worth, I have to Canon cameras.. a PowerShot S500 and a Digital Rebel XT. Had the S500 for over 6 months, never a problem with it. Great camera to take with me everywhere. The Digital Rebel XT I just got a week ago. So far its been an awesome camera. It is way out of your price range though. -d |

This place seems to have the best prices for just about any digital camera that they carry: http://www2.buydig.com This place has lots of non-biased reviews: http://overture5-cnet.com.com/Digital_cameras/2001-6501_9-0.html?tag=sh.glnav Overall it seems like Canon cameras boast the best reviews with the best image quality from the research I recently did. I wanted a good camera and good card that would cost me under $350 total. I went with a Canon A95 for $259 and a high speed 512MB Compact Flash Memory Card for $60 both at that top website. They really have great prices. Check them out. |

I love my Minolta Dimage Zii its the quickest digital camera I've ever seen. A little more than your $200 limit but the best camera if you're take action shots. I took a picture of my daughter playing basket ball. she was at the free throw line, I got pictures of her dribble, shoot, in the air, in the bucket, swoosh. Pretty dang quick don't ya think?
