Some of you may think this is a joke, but this post is completely serious.

Ever since I was about 17 years old I have been hearing voices.  The voices would only come when I would lie down to sleep and close my eyes, but they were always there.  The voices were never violent or angry, always completely random, incomplete phrases.  But now it is worse... for the last few days I have been hearing the voices all the time, not just when I am going to sleep.  Every 5 or 10 minutes I hear them, still not violent, but they are now talking to eachother, in complete sentences.  The conversations never seem to last more than about 15 seconds.  I can never remember the specifics of the conversations... I am thinking of just sitting at my computer and typing them in notepad as I hear them.  There are 3 of them, two males and a female.

Do any of you have any idea of what might be happening?  Has this happened to any of you?  I am just really freaked out right now.. i dont know what to do i dont know what to do

I dont know why i am telling all of you this, but thank you for listening

Discuss your voices with a mental health care professional and try to figure it out without taking medications.  And don't freak out they are only voices.

Lmao, I was gonna do this thread a few nights ago. But decided against it because people who think I am nuts.

When I close my eyes to sleep at night I have to turn on music or else I here my childhood. I can hear conversations from when I was little. Pretty odd some times it freaks me out however it can sound pretty dam real at times.

ETA: And know I don't hear random voices, just my childhood replaying. Like my dad talking to me. Me talking to friends etc.

It is called "sound echos".  People get them when sounds waves that they have heard from conversations past keep bouncing off the inside of their skull.

People with smaller brains often hear them more than others.

With some people the only way they can be normal is on meds... I work with mentals!

If a chemical in their brain doesn't work they NEED meds to be OK!!! I'm not saying this is your case but it sounds like its been going on for a while and you may medical attention.

Could be a number of reasons. If you are in your mid 20's to mid 30's you could be schitzo ((sp?) which is very treatable. It could be other things though....

What sate of mind are you in when the voices occur?

If you are in a deep trance right before you go to sleep, you are turning on your subconscoius and it is probably just in your head.

If you are thinking about all sorts of things and your mind is occupied, and you still hear them, it may not be in your head.

I think you have deveolped  a psychic connection to ARFCOM.  You are hearing conversations taking place in various threads found in the GD, which of course means you are very, very sick.  You need to place all of you weapons and ammo in a large box.  I will pick them up for you and keep them safe.

Floppy, in all seriousness.  If the symptoms you are telling us are true.  You need to see a doc right now.  You may have mild case of schizophrenia.  Voices are a classical symptom for this malady.  It gets dangerous when you start listening to the voices.

You might hear.  Take out your 308 and shoot C-C.  Ok, thats a bad example since maybe people have already considered that.  But in reality please get in to see a doc.  Medication is very effective with minimal side-effects compared to the older drugs.

Bipolar disorder and schizophrenia are two completely different disorders.

However, auditory hallucinations may be an indication of schizophrenia.  Check with a psychologist immediately.  Good luck!

MisterFloppy... it's nothing. It's just demonic spirits attempting to torment you so that you will commit human atrocities, thereby damning your soul to eternal hellfire and torment.

Nothing to be alarmed about.

Doesn't matter what kind of voices you are hearing.  Obviously if your brain is "creating" the voices, it could bring up old memories to get material for you.  Don't dismiss just because its your dads voice in your head.  You rationalization is equivalent to Floppy saying the voices aren't violent.  If it gets that bad, you'll be in a very bad scenario.

Both you and Floppy should go see someone about this.  It may be nothing, but the earlier they catch these things the better off you'll be.

If you are otherwise healthy, and these are not memories of conversations you are recalling (as opposed to "hearing"), the I would honestly find a qualified psychiatrist (i.e. a trained MD) and possibly also a neurologist to talk to about this.

Generally - if I recall abnormal psych properly - auditory hallicinations in the form of "voices" are fairly rare, and tend to occur primarily in schizophrenics.  Since you find them beningn, maybe small doses of lithium might help???

However, I am NOT a doctor (well, not that kind of doctor) - and I would SERIOUSLY recommend that you see a professional - and NOT a psychologist, but a psychiatrist.

Could be a Tumor interfering with memory or with your auditory nerve.

Seriously? Okay, that's definitely indicative of possible schizophrenia or schizotypal disorder. It could also possibly be related to delirium caused by a neurological disease or toxin, depression (usually melancholia), manic psychosis/bipolar, alcohol withdrawal, or previous exposure to hallucinogenic drugs (flashbacks).

However, since you say it's when you lay down to sleep that these voices occur, they may be hypnaogic episodes related to narcolepsy, although some people who are not narcoleptic experience them when they are almost asleep, but usually a hypnagogic episode is at least partly visual.

Definitely see a psychiatrist (not a psychologist, the difference is a psychiatrist is an MD and specializes mostly in the chemical and anatomical side of things, and can prescribe drug treatments if necessary), and possibly a neurologist.

MisterFloppy, you've gotten some pretty BS replies so far.  There is no need to pay attention to them nor heed the ridiculous advice.

ok ok all joking aside....

Do you still hear them when you open your eyes????
Scizoprhenia patients hear them not just eyes closed and going to sleep! They hear them at various times of the day and night with usually visual hallucinations. And with other problems occuring. If htis has been happening for years, I seriously doubt that is your trouble.
that may bring you some comfort.

If you only hear them then, it is possible you are like me. I slip into a trance like state,..that state between sleep and awake- VERY fast. More often than I realize. Many times, I can hear my kids talking to me at the bedside[ they ARE there] or the fan going, and still hear these damn things if my eyes are closed.
the minute I open my eyes to respond to the kids, they are gone.
I spoke with the doc, that is his explanation. Just a sub-conscious thing.
I used to hear beautiful classical piano music when I was a teenager before slipping into REAM. Everyone said write it down,..but never did. Now it is gone! Damn!

Oh lord, now I am gonna look like a wierdo!!

I can sometime hear my wife bitching at me to do something when she's nowhere around... I have heard "voices" as I drift off to sleep sometimes... along with all kinds of other weird shit... I just chalk it up as my brain doing sleep stuff.

I like the idea of writing them down, Ive never had auditory halucinations before, but dont think that you are crazy. I see things that arent really there sometimes (some people might call them ghosts, I think it isnt) Its human nature.

The only time that I ever had them was in SERE (survival evasion resistance escape) school.  After 3 or 4 days with very little sleep and only about 500-1000 calories I started hearing things.  In a mock POW camp there was a recurring broadcast of all kinds of different and disturbing sounds.  At the end of each track I kept hearing somebody reading baseball scores (it was August).  After we finished up I asked some of the other folks in the class if they thought that the ball scores were supposed to make us homesick.  They laughed their assess off at me.  Evidently the instructors weren't providing ball scores.

If you are hearing voices in an unstressed normal environment seek help from a medical professional.
