Device Found At Offutt Belongs To National Guardsman Wife Showed Up To Explain Device Found In Car POSTED: 3:23 pm CDT April 13, 2005 UPDATED: 3:27 pm CDT April 13, 2005 OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. -- The owner of a suspicious vehicle at Offutt Air Force Base has helped security forces at the base to deem the area safe. Around noon, security personnel at the base reported seeing a suspicious vehicle parked in the lot in front of the gate. Specialists from Lincoln were sent pictures of what was in the vehicle. Those officials identified the device as a rocket launcher. The gate was closed for about an hour as security investigated. The owner of the car showed up Wednesday afternoon and talked to security officials. She said her husband is in the National Guard, and that he had used the device for training last week, then forgot that it was in his car. He works on base in the commissary, but does not have permission to park on the base, which is why the car was left outside the gate. Security allowed the woman to leave and sounded the all clear. |
