My job requires me to be physically active and so I probably hike 4-8 miles everyday, sometimes on really steep nasty terrain.  My girlfriend, whom I live with, has been on a health food kick now for 5 months.  So in the past 5 months I have gone from 180 down to the 155-160 range.  I need to gain this weight back.  Why should I eat to gain it back?  This morning I started off with a 6 egg omelet with a can of ham and 3 slices of cheese should be a good start, but should I load up on protein or carbs?

Do you want to gain it back as muscle or fat?

I am sitting here wondering why you "need" to gain it back.  Is it because you are feeling weak?  Sometimes this happens when you lose a bunch of weight in a short amount of time.  Tweak your diet a little.

If you want to gain a bunch of weight fast, I would suggest that you use a high carb-high fat diet.  Eat a bunch of noodles and breads along with a high fat diet.  This will put on weight fast.  Eat at least 6 meals a day.  A diet high in fat and carbs (thats fast food) will pack on weight fast.

Do not eat to gain it back.  You'll just pack on pudge, and it won't do you any good.

You'll need to start a regimen of weight training to increase the power output of your 'activity'.  This will drive your appetite, and you will gain weight quickly as you put on muscle.  Muscle weighs about twice as much as fat, and it will do you a lot more good.

Hit the weights, eat more protein with little saturated fat (fish, venison, skinless chicken) .

If you want to build muscle, high carb, high protein.
Pick the nastiest terrain to walk up.
Increase calorie intake as well.  If you are doing what you say you are, your body will welcome any extra fuel you can consume with great enthusiasm.  I'm surprised you're not already a bottomless food pit.

6 1

For all of y'all telling me to start lifting weights, that ain't happening.  Not only does it screw my golf game all to hell, but after work I have no time or energy left to work out.  Hell, I work out all day, the last thing I want to do is more physical work.

I am, but the girlfriend has stocked the house with healthy food.  Light mayo, and lots of green tasteless stuff.

Before she started her diet, my diet consisted of this:

For the morning 5 buiscuts with sausage gravy
Lunch- 2 cans of armor vienna sausage, a bag of pork cracklings, 2 snickers bars
Dinner- More varried but it was a lot.

Now I am eating healthier and am wasting away.
