Over the weekend I saw an interview on CSPAN with a woman who is a Blackhawk pilot with the Illinois National Guard.

She was flying over Baghdad when a group of terrorists opened up with everything they had.  An RPG round came through the chin bubble between her legs and detonated.  She lost her left leg below the knee, and her right leg has only about 5" of femur left.

She is determined to get back on flight status.

One of the peer visitors she had was a USAF pilot who is an above-the-knee amputee who was returned to the cockpit.  Following his example, she is working with a prosthetic leg with a computerized knee cap.

She had an awesome attitude, not letting bitterness over her injuries prevent her from living her life.  I was impressed.

This nation produces some great women, too.

I'll follow women like that into battle any day.

That said, I still wish we didn't send them into combat. IMO, women are too valuable an asset. Call me mysoginistic or whatever the term du jur is, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Hmmm.....

Get their legs blown off, but won't give you phone numbers, eh?

Have you considered suicide?

She was also in the room when other soldiers and Marines were being interviewed.
When they were interviewing a Marine 1LT with a missing leg, you could see her in the background working with her right hand, which is also fucked up.  She is ONE HARD CHARGER!!!

I didn't catch all of her interiew, but I think her parents were immigrants/refugees from Korea or Vietnam.  That would explain her dedication to this country.

I called a suicide hot line once, but I had to talk to the woman there for hours before she finally killed herself.

She is a soldier of the highest order, committed to Duty. SHe is also an example of the committed heroes Americans never hear about.

God Bless her, and all those who give for others.
