On my off time I have been studying crime statistics and found alot of the information quite eye opening and wanted to share it with you guys. Of all murders in the US 51% were committed with handguns(we hear this statistic alot) and 16% with other types of guns. Yet a whopping 33% of murders were committed with other than guns. Pretty easy to assume murder isn't going to stop because no one has guns. OK, we know the libs are after the guns! Here's the demographics for gun violence number is per 1,000 since the year 2,000. Males Females Victim's age White Black White Black 12-15 3.1 14.1 2.1 4.7 16-19 9.5 39.7 3.6 13.4 20-24 9.2 29.4 3.5 9.1 25-34 4.9 12.3 2.1 9.0 35-49 2.7 8.7 1.4 3.3 50-64 1.2 3.5 0.7 1.6 65 or older 0.6 3.7 0.2 2.3 Interestingly government surveys show only 1% of victims tried or held off assailants with a gun. Now this is really a mind blower! Carjacking compared to risks of other life events Rate per 1,000 adults Events per year Violent victimization 31 Assault (aggravated and simple) 25 Injury in motor vehicle accident 22 Victimization with injury 11 Serious (aggravated) assault 8 Robbery 6 Heart disease death 5 Rape (women only) 1 Motor vehicle accident death .2 Carjacking .2 Homicide/legal intervention .1 Source: Highlights from 20 Years of Surveying Crime Victims, October 1993, NCJ-144525. You stand a better chance of getting robbed or hurt by an assailant in your car than you do with a gun. In fact, you stand a better chance getting the crap beat out of you than hurt through accident. We already knew you stood a better chance by accidents than guns. Now for some trending: Firearm injury from all causes 1993-97 Total 411,800 1993 104,200 1994 89,600 1995 84,200 1996 69,600 1997 64,200 Of the total nonfatal firearm injuries -- 62% resulted from assaults * 17% were unintentional * 6% were suicide attempts * 1% were legal interventions Note here we get the 1% again. Not much change since 2000. * 13% were from unknown causes. Just maybe more honest citizens should by more guns! Now here comes a good one! 30% of all victimizations is considered to have alcohol involved and this jumps to a whopping 2/3s in domestic violence another liberal battle cry. Some more great stuff to worry about in defense of gun ownership: 83% of all attempted burglaries the suspect gained entry. 74% of all reported car thefts were completed. If a renter, the chances of a crime being committed against you or your property is double that of a home owner. We all know that statistics can be twisted to make about any point. I just find it amasing how different my take on the statistics is compared to the media or liberal political movement. I've given these statistic a lot of thought and am convinced you are better off owning a firearm and having CCW than not. All statistics in this post are from the Bureau of Justice Statistics. www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/cvict_c.htm Tj |
