I have a question about BDU and velcro.  Do the BDUs have the fuzzy side of the velcro...or do the patches have the fuzzy side?  Or do the patchs have the bristly hook side?

Patches have the brisley side and BDU's the fuzzy side.  This is so you don't collect lint and strings on your BDU's when you don't have your patches on.

Anyone know when they are going to be issued at BCT? And won't all the velcro give up your cover in an actual combat situation?

Thats my worry. Thats why I will replace my velcro with sewn on and the fly with a velcro button insert.

Fuck conveinience! Buttons are silent. Just try to get into your pocket for your emergency blade with an enemy in the bush next to you with a velcro pocket closure.

Most people have more than one uninform.  An office or installation uniforms and then the ones you actually were into the field.  They don't have any or at least have very little insigia on them, mine only have name tapes and rank.  Spec-Ops and actual combat units have even less, they are essentually bare BDU's.

BTW: If someone can actually tell that you are wearing velcro on your inform it's probably too late.  Your black ass weapons and boots will stand out long before the green velcro on your unifrom will anyway.

Or are you taking about noise?  The military uses a lot of velcro here and there as well as noisey fast-ex clips and other little noise makers.  What do you expect to be carrying in your pockets anyway that you can't put on your rig?

+1 and add to this; opening a pocket is now a two hand job instead of one hand.

velcro also won't stay properly secured when muddy and soaking wet

Now I cant say Im Old Skool since I like my modded BDU's, but I only use Velcro on the pockets to attach glint tape, blood type, Fun meters ect.

Now eveyone is jumping on the "Velcro sound will get ya killed" bandwagon.  I dont get it.  What I carry in my pockets is nothing that Im going to need in a noise/light disipline situation.  If Ive got to get shit out of my pockets, the SHTF already.

IE here is what I carry in my pockets:

Right Arm:  Epi Pen, Israeli Bandage, Asherman
Left Arm:  Aviators Signal Panel, Signal Mirror, Firefly IR Strobe
Left Pocket:  Squad type book and pens
Right Pocket:  Dogtags, ear plugs, general BS.

If I have to get in my pockets either me or one of my troopies is shot, Im signaling an Inbound Helo, or Im doing Admin shit like verifying joes weapon serial number.  None of these things would be done while in an ambush position.
