Why cant we adapt a driveline from a piece of farm equipment to replace the CV joints and what not in an IFS system on a truck?

They need grease, but dont need a fragile rubber boot to protect them all the time... look pretty beefy too...

So whats the hold up?   I do know most tractors are pushing 60 PTO HP... so maybe they cant support the HP a vehicle puts out?

On your IFS right now, there are CV joints.  These are Constant Velocity joints.  Meaning, that regardless of driveline angle, they will spin at exactly the same speed.

A universal joint, on the other hand, will not have a constant velocity.  Even if the input shaft velocity is constant, the output shaft(after the U-joint) will have a sinisoidal(wobbly) velocity.  At high speeds it will not work.  If you are just making a trail rig <10mph it should be ok.

Sorry. Nice idear though.
