Go into the device manager delete and reboot. Have you been laying your cell phone next to your USB ports. When it rings it may screw them up.
right click my computer/hardware tab/ device manager

Delete the USB drivers and let them reinstall, it might fix your problem.

I have tried to reinstal the drivers and that doesn't work. Anything else I can do?

If it's in warranty then call tech support. The USB may have gone stupid.
Otherwise: -Does the USB root hub show up in the device manager? -What devices have you tried plugging in? -Any software or other changes since it worked last?

Well I have a USB mouse that I have been using for 3 months and not had a problem. Today it kept going weird, and I would get a message saying the usb device was not functioning properly and the mouse kept locking up.

Do you have anything else that is connected through USB? Do they work? Does the mouse not work in any port?

If you can, try using this mouse on another PC. Greater still would be use another mouse on the problem machine.

I don't use anyting else in the ports. And I have not made any changes to the computer. I will see if I have anything else to try in the ports.

Ok. The mouse works in another laptop. And I can plug my camera up to my USB ports and it works.

Corrosion kills many USB ports. I was recently reading about some people living near the ocean having to replace computers every three years to keep corrosion problems at bay.
