Remember the Turbo button on early PC clones? Did anyone actually turn the Turbo OFF?

What about the Overdrive on some American cars? Does anyone drive with it OFF?

Traction control?

etc.....

I hate useless buttons. What's the point?

Overdrive off more than on in my Cummins diesel...always pulling something heavy and their manual trannys arent worth a crap.

Overdrive is your "4th" gear or "5th" gear or "6th" gear depending on the # of gears your tranny has.

It's for cruising for max gas economy.

I.e.

The Ford AOD is a 4 speed automatic, and the Ford C6 is a 3 speed automatic.

The difference between these 2 (besides internal stuff) is that the AOD is essentially a C6 with an OD band that allows for a 0.70:1 ratio in 4th "gear" for better fuel economy. Otherwise 3rd gear is 1.00:1 and that's no good for gas economy!

Turn off overdrive when towing, climbing steep upgrades, or racing.

I turn off traction control all the time.

The Turbo button might be turned off if you're running an application that cannot stabilize with your clock speed (i.e. old DOS programs that run SUPER fast for some reason).

Yea, when you needed to run an old software program on a computer, but the computer was already too fast/advanced for it. Pressing the turbo button would in essence "slow" the computer down, which would make it compatible for the old program.

I still have buutons on my keyboard that I still don't understabnd.

And cell phones just confuse the crap out of me.

I mean seriously...why do I need all this crap on my stuff?

I just need an "on/off" button and that's it!

I drive with the OD button turned off when I am driving in the mountains.
Also, it comes in handy when I am towing.
It also is useful to force engine braking at highway speeds...

Not a useless button IMO.

I turn the O/D button off when I tow stuff. If you dont it can damage the trans.

How about the belly buttons, talk about useless

Um, actually I have TCS and Overdrive buttons on my truck.

While I almost never turn off the TCS, I have done so before.
and I turn off the Over drive often, mostly when towing something.

I started pressing some buttons that I didn't understand the purpose of when I read this thread.  My computer went into "hibernation".

Like the UNSUBSCRIBE button on ARFCOM?
I guess that's not fair.
It works occasionally.

I use the O/D button to downshift so that I can slow down without braking.

My first PC was a 286 6/8 MHz. I had to turn the "Turbo" mode off to play a few game.

I thought this thread was going to be about shirts anyway.

On the side of my AR there is a little switch that says SAFE and SEMI.  If you pick SAFE you can't shoot.  WTF good is that?  I bought it to shoot with, not be safe.

I can't unsubscribe either anymore, so I have to lock threads after I get bored with them.

Usually, it will pause a game that you're playing... that's about the only time i use it.

Where's my "any" key?? as in 'strike any key to continue'

"No keyboard detected- push F1 to continue".......wtf???

I need the traction control button on my car.  Actually, it's not a button, it's in some damned menu thingy, but it's damned good it's there.

If I couldn't turn traction control off, the car would be useless in the snow (and the rain sometimes) and would already have killed me trying to pull into traffic.

The traction control isn't the nice kind that just hits the brakes on the back wheels.  It's the evil kind that kills power.  And it's WAAAAYYYY to sensitive and overreacts.  I got stuck in the snow once.  The pedal wasto the floor, and the damned car was sitting there idling!
