Seeing another thread reminded me that I'd seen some really inexpensive Rossi longarms at Gander Mountain (big box outdoors store). I think It was either a .22 rifle or a small bore shotgun for less than $100. It may have been used, I don't remember (they have a limited selection of used stuff there). Anywho, as cheap as they are, are they any good? I was planning on saving a couple hundred bucks for a Ruger 10/22, but if I can get essentially the same thing for half the price in a Rossi . . . |
| I think you have to take used Rossi on a case by case basis. Like a lot of foreign gun makers they started out pretty low quality, but have improved a lot over the years. I have looked at the little Rossi pump 22s and would say that the quality is as good as either of the 2 original Winchester 06s that I have. I have a Rossi Puma lever action in 480 Ruger and the quality seems excellent to me. I can remember when all of the "experts" would tell you that all of the Italian/Spanish/Brazillian/ import guns were junk, some still will. |
cool, thanks for the good info. I may stop by there on the way home again to see what it was, I really don't remember but I know it was really inexpensive. |

I had 4 Rossi rifles at one time. I still have two. Very well made. I shot the hell out of these guns, so I can say they are very reliable and live a long time. The pump .22 is the wife's favorite. I have used the lever .38/357 in many cowboy competitions, and they are 100%. I gave my 20" Rossi Puma to my dad after several thousand rounds. It still looked and functioned like new. |

Well, I just spent another hour and a half at Gander Mountain. I saw a Rossi .410 shotgun for $89. I wasn't terribly impressed (the various Mossberg 500's.... and mmmmm Binellis). I did see a cool used AR-7 copy (I think that's what ArmaLite called it) but the stock was bright blue and it didn't look like it had been very well taken care of. IIRC, the AR-7 was the .22 survival rifle where the whole barrel and action of the rifle could be put inside the buttstock and it'd float, used by pilots for SHTF and/or PHTW situations. and they had the 10/22 that I wanted. 18" stainless barrel with black synthetic stock. $217. They also had Ruger 25 and 50 rnd banana mags for fairly inexpensive. But I didn't buy anything cause I was a good boy. |
