So Im in my basement on my laptop cruising on this great forum when my chow lab mix starts barking very loudly upstairs. Its still relatively early so I wasn't too worried but I considered what if it was a burgler. Both of my rifles are in the trunk of the car from when I was at the range earlier today. I haven't gotten my xd 40 yet so I don't carry a pistol at all. It came down to the only fire arm for saftey that was close and had ammo for that I could get to before a burgler got into the house and to me was a pheasant gun rem 870 express. this brings me to what kinda response times do you have from most parts of your house. If say you are at the front of your house and you hear a back window break out. what is the closest fire arm you can get to to insure the saftey of your family. and how long does it take to secure the firearm and have it locked and loaded. cheers |
So you leave your firearms in the trunk of your car "unattended", (which is bad enough, 'cus the manner in which you state it, indicates it's general practice for ya) and then you post this kind of information on public web-board???? Is this vehicle within your "line of sight" from the basement??? I suggest you try and grasp the concept of "responsible gun ownership" and don't leave your weapons lying around willy-nilly. Should I want, I could be in that trunk in less that 30 seconds, gone in less than a minute experts would probably get in there in less than 10 seconds and be gone in 30 seconds. Mike |

There are usually guns all over the house, hard not to trip over them sometimes unless company is coming over Never more than a few seconds away from at least a pistol, if not a rifle or shotgun. My firearms are allways locked and loaded; except during cleaning and at a cold firing line. |
My car is in the garage and the rifle is in a case in the trunk with the case padlocked to the frame of the car. Its locked so that to open the case it needs to be off the padlock. My garage as well as the rest of the house has an alarm that would go off if any one started to mess with the door windows anything. So if you really wanna go through the garage have my 130 pound dog pissed at you tripping the alarm and really pissing me off then sure you could try to get into my trunk of my car....but even when you got it open you would have to have a good bolt clipper. thanks for the concern but I would consider that hardly laying all willy nilly. I know several police officers whose homes I could get into and mess with their guns. a "PRO" can do anything thats why they are pros...getting into my garage is the least of there worries. |
