I just finished the most F'ed up test I have eevr taken, the MMPI. 567 true/false questions. Holy shit if I was not crazy before it I sure as hell am now. 456.Voices in your head control you? T or F False. I can't hear them because I was smart enough to wear my foil hat. |
I hate true/false, because the person who writes the test is rarely smart enough to write questions that can reasonably be answered as true or false. For instance: A crazy person might say "Yes, the voices tell me what to do." =TRUE A sane, thoughtful person might say "Yes, I usually think over a situation before making a decision. My thoughts are interpreted in my brain as speech, so technically that is a voice or voices. " =TRUE A sane, less thoughtful person might say "Voices? Nope." = FALSE Jim |

do you like hurting small animals? is your father a good man? do you love or if he's passed on did you love your father? have you ever wanted to die? do you have stomach problems? do you like to pull the wings off of flys? have you ever tried to commit suicide? do you have constant diarea? are your bowel movements normal? would you say your father was well liked? do you like flowers? have you ever wanted to kill yourself? do you like puppies? have you ever had an out of body experience? do you believe in ghost? have you ever seen anything you cannot explain? do you love your mother? ect, ect, ect, took some crazy bastard to sit down a write this shit back in the fifties, in hopes of weeding out the bad apples. |

A lot of the really F'ed up questions are actually validity indicators. It's been quite awhile since I've seen an MMPI but an example might be "Superman is a real person". There are enough obviously false questions like that to catch someone who is answering randomly. There are questions to determine random answers, faking good, faking bad, etc.... Many of them are flat-out clinical symptomology (i.e., I feel more hopeless every day for depression or I am often tense for anxiety). It's actually a pretty interesting instrument. I wish I had the adolescent version for my work with high school students. |
You may be thinking of the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator). The MMPI is the Minessota Multi-phasic Personality Inventory. The MBTI is a personality instrument the MMPI measures clinical pathology. Psychology is as bad as the military when it comes to Acronyms. I have available to me the WRAT, WIAT, WISC, K-ABC, CTONI, TONI, SB-IV, WASI, WPPSI, K-SEALS, to name just a few. |
